I worked a long time (for me) on this one and it didn't really take off. Sometimes ya just gotta hit 'record' and move on.
Patch notes:
Annoying repetitive electric piano bit is Disting EX and for some reason I decided to pair it with another EP-type sound, this time from Just Friends by way of Tallin and Belgrad.
Some processing with Mimeophon and Cornflakes, although the latter was not really working like I wanted. I can never get a granular effect quite like I want and am not sure if it's me or the module. Probably me.
Oh, and I got the new Mangrove+PPM which is making some vague garbled noises. I don't know why I didn't do something more interesting with it :/

I commented on one of your vids a couple months ago as I said your stuff affirmed for me that I can make the kind of dreamy stuff I want with modular still in a small package. Well now I'm about a month or so into having a 7U 84 hp case filled and have found a new area of the music process I am absolutely loving. Sound design in software has been one of my favorite parts of the music process for over 10 years and now tapping into this hardware, it's like rediscovering it all again. I'll be sure to post a performance sometime soon, but thanks so much for the inspiration

Super cool to hear! It's been a long time since I tried to do anything with software and I sometimes wonder how I'd take to it now. I think the main benefit of modular is that it imposes a lot of constraints on me and that seems to motivate me to experiment more (and not really care if the result is any good). I don't spend much time on YT other than posting my stuff and responding to comments but shoot me a msg when you have something to share!

Oh yeah- I thought it sounded familiar! I should have tried to patch it up so the saturation increases with velocity sorta like a Rhodes. Next time!

Listened to this a few times while admiring the patch and trying to figure out how in the heck you’re making these beautiful sounds 👌

Based on my experience, you have approximately 48 more hours to ask any questions before all memory of this patch fades 😬

@@ModularBeat I'm so far from that -- still trying to decide what my FIRST module will be (leaning towards Plaits). oh, and the case. and what about the cables? I need a utility module? 🤔 I am very interested in MI modules as I can make sense with the core sound making "system" -- if that makes sense. thanks for the upload! always inspired.

@crtzmo Oh you're in for a wild ride, enjoy it! Modular is such an inscrutable way of making music that you just have to accept that you're not going to get it right the first time. Modules will come and go and that's part of the fun. A few things I have had to learn the hard way: • Module usability is really important and hard to appreciate until you get a poorly-designed module. It’s tempting to want to pack in as much function into as few HP as possible, but sometimes a larger module with a simpler layout is more enjoyable than a tiny thing with cramped knobs or complicated menus. • Along the same lines, I’m beginning to appreciate modeless design more these days. Modules that rely on modes that you enter via buttons/switches/menus can be great for some applications, but sometimes I find I start flipping through modes like an impatient kid flipping through TV shows. I find that modeless designs (lots of examples in the Make Noise catalog) result in more thoughtful patching for me. • Consider getting a larger case than you think you’ll need (as long as it fits your workspace). There’s not much of a difference in terms of cost and then you won’t be tempted to buy modules based solely on whether they will fit or not. Or just plan on having a smaller case and be content with swapping modules in and out each session (get Befaco Knurlies to make this easier). Off the top of my head, some modules I think would be a great starting point for any setup: Clocking modulator: Pamela’s Pro Workout VCA: Veils Utility: Quadrax Sum/mult: 333 Attenuverter: Triplatt or similar Effects: FX Aid or similar All you’d be missing is a sound source and way to play notes. Technically you already have these abilities since Pam’s can sequence and Quadrax can be used as a VCO. But you’d likely want to get something a bit more specialized. If you want to keep it in the MI ecosystem, Plaits and Marbles are great.

@@ModularBeat wow, thank you so much for your thoughts and advice! I realize this all takes time to consider and articulate, I really appreciate it. everything that you've written makes total sense. I will review the modules you've suggested -- there are a few there I do not recognize. on the case, although I would really like to have a 62HP 4U Intellijel Palette case, I think the better purchase is the 104HP (84HP feels just right, too bad there's no 4U config of that!). I have a Polyend Tracker and am really interested in connecting that with CV or MIDI/USB; lay some really stanky fartbox rips with the Tracker and nudge Marbles into action with some sequenced pings. 🤪can't wait! thank you again, I really appreciate it!!

@@crtzmo Sounds like a good start. Agreed that 84hp palette would be the sweet spot. Only issue I have with the palette is that it's too shallow for some modules (Disting EX being the main reason I am using my big case these days).
