Great presentation of a side-to-side comparison. Nice job with the filming Leonardo.

I was a little surprised. I liked the Sodbuster and expected it to cut the cabbage and carrots better. The difference was pronounced but I have learned from previous posts that I must be very careful when criticizing a product. I made slightly negative comment about a product a few years back and the CEO of the company threatened to sue me. Thanks Jason for watching and commenting. You are a good friend. Wish you the best in the future.

Hi Frazier! I love these head to head reviews. It looks like they are both great knives, but the Opinel #9 edges out the Case. Either one would be a good addition it seems. Personally, I have way more knives and multi-tools than I will ever need. It's great that Leonardo did the filming, and did a great job too.

I really wanted the case to be better but sticking in the cabbage and carrots was a serious flaw. Thanks for the note and your continued support. Take care.

There's one advantage with the Opinel, completely impossible to fall in love with 😉😉

I pack a victorinox chefs knife for large meal prep while camping , but use my Case large Trapper for small snack prep like a charcuterie board etc. The knife i thought would work great is the Case large texas toothpick . Great video

Guy, Thanks for watching and posting this note. If you like it, use it. I have too many good knives. Each week, I use a different one.

First choice if you need a camping Knife is the old (before 2017) Victorinox OUTRIDER. As valid alternative you can get the Ruike LD42-B weight more, cost more, but it is definitely a more substantial Knife. About utilitarian single blade Knife Opinel INOX N°9 is unbeatable about quality for the price and it also has a really important double lock. If you would like a valid alternative to Opinel as a kitchen preparing, mess, utilitarian knife IMO you should value the Florinox Kiana Origin. It is a quality lockback, not scary, very useful for food and other camping stuffs. A simple and pleasant desing and a good steel blade too.

I really like my Opinel knives. You can’t beat them for the price and they are quite versatile.

You’re right Mendy. They are great. Unfortunately most people are satisfied with whatever knife they have and don’t feel the need to find a better one. Thanks for the note.

@@moderntentcamping or are never satisfied with the knives they have and end up with a large collection of them (like me). 😂

@@mendyviola Like me. Just bought a set of Dalstrong Gladiator non-serrated steak knives. They looked like they would be good food prep knives - and I wasn’t wrong. I kept one knife and gave the other three to family and Friends. Have used my knife to cut a few items and I’m very pleased. Looking forward to using it more over the next days. Take care.

The reason why the opinel doesn’t get stuck when preparing food is because it has a convex grind on its blade. It is also thinner and these two attributes make opinel such great slicers! Best value for money knives out there!

You realize that in most of Europe the sodbuster and the openal are called a folding butchers knife ?
@moderntentcamping Жыл бұрын
O, I didn’t know that. I thought they were called working man’s knife. Thanks for the info.
@168Diplomat Жыл бұрын
@@moderntentcamping yeah where we call them sod buster they call them folding butchers knives especially in Germany. They are known as a working man’s knife just like they are here. Just a different “name” I guess that you would say.

I don't like the opinel for the kitchen because when the wood handle swells due to humidity, you need pliers to open it. The slipjoint is easier to wash and don't accumulate as much staphilococus.
@moderntentcamping Жыл бұрын
Good points. I’m not a fan of either - and prefer a fixed blade as my kitchen knife. But many campers like the opined. By the way, do you know how to tap the pommel to open when the wood is swollen?
@wavepropulsion1 Жыл бұрын
@@moderntentcamping I didn't know. Been in Europe some time and had opinels as edc sometimes. What an ole boatbuilder told me is they fry their friction folders a couple of hours and show me his own: the wood turns waterproof like plastic, amazing.
@wavepropulsion1 Жыл бұрын
Agree about the fixed blade, I ever had one exclusively for the kitchen. I know your channel since I watched a video about hatchets, you have a great content, thanks. I'm not young anymore but after a life playing with knives I prefer slipjoints over all the rest of systems and locks for the pocket.

For price, the thin slightly convex full grind, and a lock (such as it is) I tend towards prefering the opinel. The Sodbuster is truly great though and it comes with a significantly nucee fit and finish as well as a better handle (i may be in the minority here but i really do like the case pale yellow bakelite-y feeling material. I may look at a locking one some point.

I’m with you. I like the looks and feel of the sod buster but I’d choose the Opinel for food processing. Thanks for the comment.
