Establishing a crushing operation within the worksite of the Highway 401 expansion project was no simple task.
West Corridor Constructors (WCC) was faced with many factors to consider. Design constraints meant managing the logistics of staying within a limited workspace while safely maintaining other on-site operations. Environmental and economic considerations were paramount for a project of this scope. Delivering a cost-effective strategy for expanding a major route for commerce and commuters on the schedule was crucial. In essence, failure was not an option.
Using recycled materials offered a sustainable approach, reducing the need for virgin aggregates, trucking requirements, and greenhouse gas emissions emitted into the atmosphere. At the same time, the concept of on-site crushing preserved crucial construction schedules and costs.
WCC evaluated various techniques and manufacturers, analyzing each finite detail of the operations. Site simulated field trials in their yard allowed for the testing of different pieces of machinery and pile configurations. With a job so large, it required extensive research, development, and design. A process that took upwards of 9 months to complete.
After a comprehensive evaluation of what machines to use on the project, WCC selected Keestrack supplied by Frontline Machinery. Find out why.
Specializing in crushing, screening, grinding and shredding, and material handling and measuring equipment, Frontline provides product and service expertise to aggregate processing, material and wood recycling, biomass and pellet production, and heavy civil construction sectors in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.

Should have made provisions for a transit ROW; the 100 km/h limit must be raised to 120-130; highway expansion is unnecessary when office employees can easily WFH.
