I am doing job in iit Hyderabad. I think there is no caste discrimination here. Recently 2 students committed suicide and they are from st category who have backlogs. The main reason for dropouts is 1)coming to core jobs like electrical, mechanical, there is no practical education system here (however now things are changing) . All iit will prefer simulation and theoretical study. So job opportunities are less in core sector. 2)now a days even non iit have earning more income than iitians. Whether you study in iit's or nit's doesn't matter, skills to the company matters. Etc etc

I am doing PhD in Civil Engineering at IIT Dhanbad. Honestly I think reasons for dropping are: getting involved in non-academic and toxic activities and toxic culture, preparing for the exams in the last minute, not trying to understand the concepts when taught in class- thinking that they can self master them with their own preparation, involving in raggings (micro level). All these things will bar out them from Academic mind set and render them to become useless. Result is- they will eventually fail in many subjects and cannot clear the accumulating backlogs with time, thereby dropping out as a whole. IITs or NITs or Government Colleges are all the same, they are just platform, but for achieving great things person should make habit of doing known things to them greatly.

Is it good if there is an engineer who can make good plans to bulid houses and invent new things and develop our country or else is it good to give seat for the reserved candidate who got enough marks to be an engineer but don't know how to build? Is it way of making ourselves blind...and not encouraging talented people by giving seats to general category

I got 95 percentail in JEE which means i'm in the top 5% who attempted that exam.And not got any seat in any NIT/IIIT not even in petroleum/chemical engineering.If we take a class of 40 people my rank will be 2nd and when we were young 2nd rank is considered good enough and still am not great according to the government.
