TBH, I would take Matuidi out of this list AT THE MOMENT(Matuidi is absolutely world class, but the moment is not like the others), Nainggolan, Casemiro, Kanté and Vidal as central/defensive midfielders are just shinning so brightly at this particular season that they have no equal. And I'd say that even between those, Casemiro and Kanté are shinning like the Sun from a meter away.

Xabi Alonso is the passing defensive midfielder not the defending defensive midfielder. Vidal is the defending defensive midfielder though Xabi isn't that bad at defending.
