If you look Casey up on wiki,he plays both. In this case, it looks like a cello. It's much too small for a double bass. He played the double-bass when he sang Georgia on AI during Hollywood week, and the thing was taller than he was.

I play cello and I'm telling you. It's a cello. Basses have a different shaped body and are huge. I also don't know why he didn't have the bottom stand up peg extended so he could play it correctly.

"Chello" is not a word, and "base" is not a musical instrument, "base" is the bottom of something, as in " basement", granted, similar to the word "bass", which is what I think you meant, but turning it on its side does not make it a different instrument.
