Trav, you may have thought of this or someone else may have suggested it already however, perhaps seeking the support of ANSMA, car clubs/similar bodies may help you gain some traction. For a start, the Historic and Classic Car rego schemes run by all state governments were implemented to enable and support classic/custom automotive interests and hobbies. A good example of how a traditionally right wing/family orientated group/activity can prevail when attacked by the left, I cite the recent Tamworth NSW local government and State Government departments banning gold fossicking at Nundle. There was no consultation, and the rules were changed at the behest of a handful of local zealots and activists with unqualified left/green ideologies and a stated claim to protect the Booroolong frog! I kid you not, it's now a matter of very public record. There was strong community opposition both locally and from the broader fossicking and prospecting community, arguably a far smaller group than car enthusiasts but, with the help of Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson, the matter was very quickly overturned by the NSW State Government. Clearly the Booroolong frog wasn't in that much danger... Getting back to classic car regos, the reduced rego/insurance costs are specifically intended to make classics more affordable and in turn, support the industries that complement the car enthusiast and the broad range of activities that go into being a car man, woman or kid. Local government placing this type of taxation and over regulation is patently absurd and at odds in all respects to such State Government Schemes designed for affordability and practicality. Further, the special and family orientated culture of classic, historic and custom/special cars is something that is very important to the Australian way of life and a significant part of the economy and must be protected from self-interested narrow-minded minorities that seek to chip away at the pillars of our hard-won rights and freedoms. If these fascistic, uncompromising and dogmatic ideologues prevail with this dictatorial governance, businesses like Supercheap, Autobarn, Repco and the hundreds of independents in regional areas will suffer and so will their employees. Remember, no one ever seeks power and control to later relinquish it, democracy must be permitted to prevail over these out-of-control tyrants. I hope I have been of some help to you. Regards, S.

The councils explanation of their laws aligns with what I assumed was their intention. In fairness to you, those laws were drafted poorly, ambiguously, and far too broadly. Drafting and worse, implementing such laws smacks of incompetence and a lack of foresight rather than malice or an officious toadie at council. IMO, volunteer or run for council but find a way to get involved. Its easier for you to have a productive exchange and input to laws like this if you've been a part of the conversation. Good luck.

Did you contact the council and speak to a by-laws officer? Did you read all the rules and refs regarding this in the booklet the council issues? If you did you would have found out that what you’re saying is the product of a little bit of info being blown out of all proportion. Clause 28 “A person must not, except with a permit, use private land to: (a) dismantle; (b) repair; or (c) service vehicles or machinery in circumstances where the activity or use is detrimental to the amenity of the area in which the private land is located.” That’s it! If you cause your neighbours grief then you need a permit. If you don’t cause your neighbours grief you can do what you like. It pays to go to the source and ask some questions.

You are correct. I think there’s a bit of fear mongering going on. Just go to the council and speak to the bylaws officer.

How can they stop you.

Out of interest because i thought how fucking stupid i went and read the the councils info on permits and fees, i would be blaming the people of casey who complain enough to force the council into doing this firstly, that is whats 100% driven this stupidity no doubt.... secondly, in relation to your oil change... it states that minor maintenance is acceptable such as oil changes without permits... but this whole permit thing when you read through it all is dumb....

I don't think your garage is on public/council land so I don't think it applies to you. Check with them if you don't believe me. Means you can work on your car in your garage on your property. What a fizza.

Yep, just left a comment myself. 'Why would anyone drink the oil, then pay for a permit?' No need for a permit now if he just drank the oil....🤣🤣🇦🇺

I think it may have something to do with toxic environmental waste (oil) being disposed of incorrectly and ending up in landfill? If you take your vehicle to a licensed workshop for a service these days, most charge a levy for waste disposal. When you take all of that into consideration, the council is probably justified in charging a "reasonable" fee.

Most local dumps have an oil waste disposal drums where you pour your waste oil in.

I used to work at a wreckers and they allowed free disposal of old oil.

Lots of Supercheap Auto shops have used oil drop off points too.

@@user-tq4zm9yr6l Yeah, but it's easier to stick it in a wheelie bin. That's why the council is taking steps to stop it.
