I remember i watched a video like 10 minutes ago about how he loves his shots tilted because it makes it feel like hes talking to a person not a camera then now he says he wants every shot to be perfectly straight... which one is it dude?
@caveymon
@caveymon Жыл бұрын
Tilted is still static. And probably tilted up or down which still makes a square shot. Using angles for dramatic effect. He just hates/detests skewed shots which are slanted sideways. Or skewed as even the animation shows. Or moving shots. He generally tries to keep his skateboard shots static as possible. And 9 out of 10. So there is some leeway.

Bro should direct a movie. He's got the technicality right. Jackie Chan used the same technique to film his action films since the '80s. He said, "Always steady, wide angle. Let the audience see I'm jumping down, running, do those kinds of things." That's why his self-directed movies are so good & easy to see. No supercuts, no shaky cam, & doesn't hurt our eyes.

It’s always so nice to see familial foundations build on mutual love, respect, and communication. 🥰 The mom is calmly and lovingly setting expectations and boundaries with her child, the son is clearly and calmly (for his age) expressing his emotions, and momma is helping him cope with them and the situation (hugs and _I love yous_). My mom had a different method of dealing with this bedtime struggle though. The rule was that if we did everything we needed to do to get ready for bed (teeth, pjs, etc.), then we could stay up and quietly watch another half hour of TV before going to bed for real. It made us feel more “adult” because we thought we were getting away with staying up later, when in reality she was just getting us ready half an hour before our actual bedtime. 😁 One time we argued about getting to stay up till midnight during a sleepover and instead of arguing with a bunch of actual kindergarteners, she just agreed and stealthily changed all the clocks in the house so that it would be midnight by the time our movie finished! 🤭

Camera movements makes a focal point to a subject that you want to focus on. It makes the other parts of the view passively visible/invisible. Static type of taking a shot is like watching your teacher where your focus will go outside the window, blackboard/whiteboard, and getting sleepy after because it takes to much attention to other data/objects other than the subject. He explained it differently maybe that's the way he perceives it.

A great thing with heavy cameras is that you learn to compose before you finally have the resources to move the camera other than sticks and by that time you know how to research & master the techniques necessary for creating meaningful camera movement. Watch the new TopGun - lots of sticks, little Dolly and great inboard crashcam - no “war time” or “street cinema” like you would expect from a movie about military aviation.

Static shots have a set composition. Dynamic shots done correctly have the same compositional aesthetic, but they make the shot more interesting. Slapping 400 pounds of sandbags on a dolly and ever so slowly creeping in on your subjects for a longer take will always look better than a static shot for that same amount of time.

I think Casey is someone who intimately understands how humans view film. Like he said, our eyes are effectively wide angle, 18-24mm lenses, although if a film were shot that way, there would simply be too much detail and it would be hard to draw attention to something. That being said, it can be done with a maximalist style of filmmaking, those iconic Wes Anderson shots brimming with detail are a good example, however if you're looking to give your film a naturalistic feel, ironically a narrower lens does the trick.
