I think the Tortuga needs an alternator Casey! It’s probably dead and not charging the battery anymore hence why after a bit of driving and turning the lights on it dies

I did the alternator last fall and it still did the same thing. It’s not that turning the lights on kills it, it’s switching from high beams to low, or just simply touching the button/ even turning them off. She’ll buff.

Hope you get the tortuga figured out. I would first go through and check all of the grounds and clean the battery cable terminals. If it has been sitting for a while it could just have corrosion on the terminal ends. A bad ground will cause all sorts of weird electrical gremlins to pop up. Check where negative battery cable attaches to the starter. There should also be ground cables between the engine block and the frame and the engine block to the body. If any of those are loose or corroded it would cause electrical problems like you are having. Good luck. Keep living the dream. Yeww

I know in prior comments you mentioned you replaced the alternator last year. The problem still could be the alternator... the Tortuga is old, so there's a chance you may not be able to find a new alt and only refurbished. Which is doable in a pinch, but I don't recommend it unless the refurbished one is Denso brand. Now, it's true that it could be a wiring short somewhere down the line (even as simple as a loose connection at the battery, though you would have fixed that when changing the battery out). I would get a battery/starter/alternator test done to rule out those parts. O'Reillys and Napa do that test. I personally have a jump starter and air compressor (I recommend getting one) or call me. I can totally come to the rescue in the SF Bay/Tahoe area or anywhere in between.

It seems like you have this thing called parasitic battery drain. This could be a faulty relay, a headlight/dome-light switch, alternator, or any other electrical gremlins. Check all your grounds. Look for chewed up wires or wires that have been improperly terminated. Check fuses and relays. Look for corrosion or burnt up wires.

@@CaseyWillax If the alternator is good, you should check ground (-) cables. Run a cable straight from the engine block to the battery (-) and see if you see better performance. You could use a jumper cable. A car should be able to run without the battery. BTW Autozone and places like that would check your alternator for free. It's never bad to double check. Hope you can get this figured it out soon. I like Tortuga!!!

Yeah your video was perfect timing, after snowboarding for six months, chasing the powder in my truck camper, then spending a month in the Desert riding MTBs, I now am working 8 hour days in the hot sun as a handyman. The transition is always rough but the hard work seems to be good for the soul. Something humbling n honest about it. I’ve been using the pain to see beyond stoke or no stoke and see that true stoke is beyond pain n pleasure. I’m sorta a yoga nerd I guess. And dealing with Tortuga can be hard work, I know I had a 86 Sunrader I remodeled. But the tough times always teach the deepest. Be well, and I’m a proud new owner of a cardinal red Overstoked T, luv that color.

When you got in The Tortuga I said 2 myself let the breakdowns begin! and boom 5 seconds later I was 🤣🤣! I have dropped $8k in my 2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid in 4 months! I will pray that you pass that problem on 2 someone else and hope they don't watch your blogs! Owning a Toyota Motorhome is like dating a crazy chick! You like em but they are expensive and always breakdown/crackdown on you! lol True Story I donated my Toyota Dolphin 2 charity for the tax write off!
