Fun fact about the 'artificial banana flavour: it was originally made from a species of banana that now has grown extinct due to a disease plaguing the plants those bananas grew on. So it does really taste like an actual banana, just a type we are not used to and that's why it tastes nothing like the bananas we eat now. Different species taste different. For example the blue Java banana tastes like vanilla ice cream and nothing like what we think of when someone says 'banana'. Same goes for different fruits, like strawberries come in different flavours too. We all know the traditional strawberry, but there is for example also a species called the pineberry that looks like a white strawberry with red seeds, but tastes like pineapple. It's really confusing to bite into!

Fun, -slightly debated- fact: most people don't like banana flavouring as it's based on a type of banana, the Gros Michel, that isn't widely grown anymore. (I think there's one farm left?) It got almost wiped out by a fungal disease in the 1950s. It tastes very different from our normal bananas, which are the Cavendish variety. (It's a debated 'fact' because there isn't any solid evidence on the flavouring connection, but anyone who's had the Gros Michel banana does say it tastes like the artificial flavour. So maybe it's just a coincidence!)
