+Tome Rodrigo I doubt there is an issue with hygiene at their factory. Their final customers that package/ship/store/sell you the cashews are the ones you should be concerned about. Also, I'm sure most of the people eating the cashews they bought at the store do so without washing their hands first (which btw touched the filthy can/bag and who knows what else! hahaha)

+David The Good I have had similar thoughts. This could be mechanized but would be a larger wholesale cost to western buyers. The workers need money so badly and have no leverage. The west has money and leverage and demands the lowest cost. That's why they hate Castro and Mugabe. They won't let them do this to their citizens.

it is nice to know they are able to work , didn't know that the oil from a cashew was as irritating as poison ivy though, see ya learn sumpin new every day , I seen a comment on why they didn't have gloves, i'm thinking that any kind of glove used would probably get in the way and might hinder more than it would help. Either way it is good to see that there is now work for them closer to their homes, and doing something that the world needs, or really likes.

I wonder what cashew plant strain these are . It's actually two chemicals. Slightly different than the urushiol in p.ivy. From what I read they are worse! Causing literal burns to the skin. Maybe some cashews plant strains are worse than others. ?? Interesting

With the many fantastic health benefits of cashews ie. 10 grams of protein for half a cup (great vegan food), 82% unsaturated fat and very high in antioxidants cashews protect our hearts from heart disease while meat increase LDL the unhealthy cholesterol. They are high in Calcium and Magnesium too. As a vegan for health, care for animals and environmental reasons I eat cashews about four times a week in cashew cheese, which is delicious!

Macadamia nuts are native to my country Australia. They grow in a round green shell on a big tree. Open the green shell and you have a very hard brown shell. Crack it open and you have the maca nut inside. You can eat it raw or roasted, both tastes beautiful. ;-)

Peace Corps Volunteers work with cashew farmers and processors to build their capacity. Peace Corps is a grassroots development organization and we provide trainings rather than capital. Our role has been to introduce Ghanaians to processing so that one day when *they* have the capital, they can pursue processing in their own country rather than exporting to India or Vietnam.

As far as I've read, there's no way you could eat a raw cashew nut because of the urishiol that would contaminate the nut I you peel it when it hasn't been steamed and/or toasted. They say in Indonesia they have a different technique to extract the raw nut without contaminating it but still don't know how that works :/

the salary is too cheap, the posion and dust cashew are too serious, i saw many people died by lung and blood cancer. too expensive payments for these works. in VN now 2014 7000 dong to peel soft husk of 1kg cashew. it take about over 1 hour, but they still need to separate kinds and check tiny husks. lets think out what we have done
@sirfinthetube
@sirfinthetube 9 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, I just paid $14 U.S. (294,000 Dong) for 1 kg of deluxe whole cashews at the grocery store. The peeling cost the producer $0.33 U.S. (7000 Dong) in wages. This amounts to just over 2% of the price I paid. Regarding working conditions, I suggest all of the workers should join together and petition management for better conditions. As long as no one can use force against someone else the petition method may work. All people benefit from totally free markets. If you are selling or buying labor, raw materials or finished products a free market is as fair as it gets. No tariffs, no sales taxes, no subsidies, no wage controls, no price controls, no fiat money. Free markets free people.
