My brother and I stayed at the Aria back in January. We had a $75 per day food and drink comp with the standard room rate. Two burgers with beers and tip, $75. Bottled water, $6.50. Canned Diet Coke, $8. Craps tables, $25 and $100. We took a cab to Ellis Island every day and had the best time ever. The staff is great, and it felt like the old days with inexpensive food and reasonable table stakes. We are going to Vegas in March and staying at Ellis Island. BTW, they have some amazing beers they brew and their homemade root beer is really good.

I hope places like Ellis Island start and capitalize on a new reverse trend of what you described...the old vegas. They should be marketing hard for exactly that. and people should embrace and seekk them out...and pass on the big resort casinos.

You will find that most of the better places to play at in Las Vegas are the off strip hotels and casinos. If you go to Flamingo and take the bus down to Bolder Highway you will get to Sam's Town which is pretty good. The eateries have mostly changed. If you go downtown try some of the downtown hotels. Food is really good at Main Street Station and California Hotel. If you can get to Jerry's Nugget they have a good casino and their coffee shop has some of the best food in Las Vegas.

Forgot to mention if you are on Boulder Highway go down to Boulder and Harmon Ave. The Longhorn Hotel/Casino is there. Playing in the casino is good and the restaurant is good and not as pricey as the places on Las Vegas Blvd.

Went to Vegas for Superbowl weekend. Best food deal was the the 9.99 steak and eggs at Ellis Island. There is a prime rib deal at Cafe Hollywood in Planet Hollywood Sunday through Thursday. The prices are getting bad especially for snacks and soda at the ships in the hotels. And resort fees are just a rip.

Just in the last five years of my wife, and I traveling to Las Vegas, we’ve noticed the price increases exponentially. We are a big fan of Jacob’s life in Vegas and trying to find the monthly under $20 deals. We usually have one or two fancy dinners, the rest are on the cheap side or utilizing perks from things like my slots app. Overall, very nice rant, David.

Good luck with all of your efforts. You are on the right track. Thank you again. Wow! So true! Corporate Vegas sucks. I'm a senior guy and remember the good old days in the 70's and early 80's. Food was cheap especially downtown. Good old shrimp cocktails were 50 cents and big at the horseshoe along with 50 cent beers. Rooms were reasonable. My dad who was really a cheapskate loved Vegas for its value. Now I don't go up the strip at all. Can still find some good deals at some casinos I stay at Southpoint or downtown. It's really too bad.

Totally agree regarding the outrageous prices. I use to go to Vegas several times a year and was considering buying a property there. Prices started rising and the extra charges such as resort fees for thing not used ie pool/gym etc caused me to go less often. Now with local casinos and online I haven't gone to Vegas in years. It will take a lot of incentive to get me to ever go back.

I'd have a host who would comp the first few days, then base what else u get on your wagering.. who wants to worry about did I gamble enough to get a food comp.. I rather just buy my food.. prices have gone up.. it sucks.. when people start not going then maybe Vegas will change

I feel like about 25-30 years ago Las Vegas had collective epiphany and realized that if they could create the Fantasy and keep it going on, they could not just be in an amusement park for adults… They could be the exclusive resort amusement park for adults. And what does everyone think when they go to those kinds of places like Disney World? They assume that the high prices, the expensive rooms, the random charges are all part of the fun and experience. This is what fueled all the mega-themed casinos in the 90s and 2000s… But now they just realized that they can pivot again… what other kind of experience let’s you pay a ton of money, and not question how much everything associated with that experience costs? Sporting events. I don’t think they’ll ever recover from this… They’ll make lots of money, but I don’t think it’ll ever be the Las Vegas we knew. maybe someone else will seize the moment, but not the current casinos on the strip

My wife and I went a few times a year over the last few years, and noticed that the prices are outrageous and the suites aren't always in great condition and the cleanliness has declined. We love the shows, and had a great experience at CEG, and even with that, we aren't enticed to come back even with the free room comps. I would love to see an independent owned resort that goes back to the glory days of great service, great suites and great prices and no resort fees.

Vegas is quickly approaching Disney-level price gouging. For example, a person who dreamed about taking their family to Disney World can now go to Europe for twice as long for the same price. If Vegas becomes more expensive than Hawaii, I’m choosing Hawaii every time.

Vegas has gone from inaccessible to most accessible to not accessible again, all in my lifetime. I can't wait for the Casino Quest Casino/Hotel to be a thing. Used to be that coming to Vegas was super easy and could be done on a whim and a shoestring budget. Now it takes more than a little planning and saving for several months. My family and I are coming in June and doing the timeshare preview at Tahiti Village for three nights and another two nights using MyVegas rewards at Mandalay Bay. Our total hotel cost is going to be less than $300 for five nights. We started planning November 2023. Bring back the mob...

You are so right. We used to visit Vegas from Cleveland twice a year. Airfare was cheap, $100-200 round trip. I know this prices have went up too, but we would go for 3-4 days, take $2500-$3000 for gambling money. We would get our rooms comps, a meal ticket for each day. We could spend a lot of time at the tables and machines with that amount, get a show for free or real cheap. Now it’s $4-500 for airfare, $3000 won’t last for a day of you have a bad few hours. Rooms are $200+ a night after all the fees. You need $1000 for meals for 2 people for 4 days. We haven’t been back to Vegas in almost 10 years. I’d love to get back there, but it’s just not worth it anymore.

We all whine and cry and rant but people are still going in droves and they are making more money so there is zero incentive to stop what we think is insanity. Regulars like me just don't wind up on the strip as much to avoid the strip tax and higher costs. Even Ellis in my mind is getting expensive because we used to stay there for well under $50 with no resort fee and get tall beers for $1. Now I spend my time in their craps pit to play low-bankroll strategies for hours and having a good time, win or lose.

I agree with everything, especially about F1 (or FU). Everyone says "Well the demand is up in Vegas so it makes sense to raise all the rates". Yes, but the issue is they are currently losing the middle class tourists, because they are currently going to go elsewhere on vaca instead, have a great time, continue going to that destination in the future, and forget about Vegas all together. Hello, i agree. I was at Vegas in January 2024, and it is definitely more expensive from the last time i was there (2015). $200 per night use to last a long time. Now u need $1k to $2k per night, depending on your luck. Vegas needs to go back to the old days. We all need to band together and boycott any craps or table game above $10. Vegas lower their table games to $5, and there will be more players. That is just my opinion. I now prefer going to tribebal casinos that are so much cheaper and give free nights and play credits. My favorite is WinStar in Oklahoma.

I can't recall the name of the economist, but they made a very strong point about how casinos and resorts are following a very bad trail. Resorts in the last few years were chasing the "Big Players." They counted on the large sums of money the whales would play at the tables. But the faulty part is that the whales only go to Vegas on periodic occasions. True they spent large amounts but the resorts had to BRIBE them to come with free rooms, fancy dinners, luxury transportation, etc. But it is the Local trade and visitors at no cost to resorts who really pay the bills. A whale may drop $200,000.00 to $500,000.00 at the tables but they may only come once maybe twice a year. It is the hundreds of thousands of local players and out of state who although they may only drop $ 200.00 or $1,000.but come to the casinos four or five times a year to keep the places going.

Pay the employees well so I don't have to tip, that will make my Vegas trips mobettea
