An interesting review FT. These watches bring back fun memories for me as they were released not long after I left school. I am that old. I've been re-purchasing a few of the new old ones that I used to have over the years including the calculator watch that I thought was so cool at the time. I never had the Alien version in this review and I could be tempted but maybe not at the retail price. Casio definitely improved the back light though, the originals were like a glow worm in a dirty KitKat wrapper. The full metal A1000 is a much better stainless steel watch and is OK for a metal retro, super thin and functional but from my experience the display lets it down compared to the square G-Shocks. Sometimes they come up at a reasonable price online not far from the retail cost of the A100. Worth a review though.

The A1000 is ok, but not great. The negative display version is almost unreadable at most viewing angles, and the MoP dial is underwhelming. I bought both the pos+ and neg- display versions, swapped the modules over and now have a great watch with a surprisingly good Milanese bracelet, and sold the modded neg- version. 👍🏼

I'd prefer the black version for Ripley-vibes, but that has a negative display, and Casio negative displays are generally useless for readability. I do wonder if the polarising filter is easy to remove and flip, which would fix the issue?

The resin has been a bit too much of an succes. Now it hard to find a metal cased casio (that isn't a G-Shock). The only one I can think of is the Casio A1000M .
