I love how you're able to squeeze every last bit of sonic capability out of these keyboards. I like to do exactly the same. I didn't see any videos of a Casio SK-1 !! Is there a video out there I may have missed? I'm sure you could work some incredible magic out of it. I recently got one on eBay (after having used it a lot as a kid) and I was surprised how capable it is. It has a sequencer that records two tracks with selectable sounds for each track that play multitimbrally, plus rhythm and bass patterns at the same time. I was definitely not doing that as a kid. I really enjoy your channel and look forward to your videos. Thanks for the awesome content! 🎹

Top work! You absolutely got the most, and then some, out of the DJ-1. And by incorporating all those other little Casios you showed how good these little Casio boxes of fun can sound. Now, if only I could find a DJ-1 for myself - I've been looking for a few years now with no luck!

Now you have made me want a Casio KT100 .. I already have 4 MT70s :) Goes back to when I was a child and the MT70 was prominently displayed in a shop close to where I went for piano lessons. Piano teacher said it wasn't any use since it had mini keys .. and as a child I didn't have the money for it myself (and it was quite expensive). Many years later, after lots of searching for which was the Casio model that was stuck in my memory, I finally found the MT70 - the only one with a central LCD display - these days they can be bought pretty cheaply, though out of 4 I have, only 1 is fully operational.
@KeenOnKeys5 ай бұрын
Instead of the KT-100 (which will be pretty hard to find outside Japan), look for the CT-501. It is an MT-70 with large keys.
@davealancaruana67275 ай бұрын
@@KeenOnKeys i've seen CT-501 for sale a couple of times, it's the KT-100 that I find intriguing as I didn't know it exists. I've been trying to find a list or catalogues of all the early Casio models but doesn't seem to exist.

I´d love to see a review of the Casio VA-10. It´s an amazing keyboard with very advanced features... like.. you record a melody and calculates a harmony for the accompaniment. This is the holy grail of Casio keyboards for me. I've never seen it for sale in my country, and international shipping is very prohibitive due to its size. It seems like the only model successor from this era, where Casio actually improved on the original, (think VL-1, SK-1, PT-80) without sacrificing some other existing feature or function. Although many of the sounds are super cheesy, (which I love) there are a number of voices that border on semi-professional. When I look at the timeline of Casio mini and mid-sized home keyboards, so often I get frustrated when decisions that were obviously profit motivated ruin the progression and possibilities of a line of models. The DJ-1 was a refreshing change from what would have usually followed up a great first release.

@ Keen On Keys I’m confused. When you record the DJ-1 with effects using the cassette recorder, do you have to connect the headphone jack to the inputs on the effects unit and connect the two outputs on the effects unit to the auxiliary input on the keyboard? Do you need one Y-splitter cable or two?
@KeenOnKeys5 ай бұрын
You need two. One for the DJ-1 output and the other to connect the two outputs of the effects unit to the AUX input.
@MitchM-r1s5 ай бұрын
@@KeenOnKeys Are you saying that the effects unit must also have two inputs?

No. You will need a Y-split cable at the output of the DJ-1, because one output goes to the effect and the other to your sound system or headphones.
