I'm turned into 60 and I'm getting an immense appetit for learning new things, and I mean anything, so this kind of keyboards looks fascinating as I have no idea if I will keep playing piano or trying the Mount Blank tour in an electric bike... Certainly drinking alcohol, eating fat and rambling at the local bar is not in my retirement plans. Dear Stu I love your reviews and your mastery as piano player, please keep doing this as you are the inspiration for lots of people that are vested into doing fun and productive things with their free time.

Really really impressed by your summary. Not just because I agree with it, but you attempted to speak to everyone and to answer everyone's question without them even answering it. Not only that, but to make the point so succinctly with no floundering or clamoring for words - great work. Keep it up.

I honestly really enjoyed this video. I really appreciate that there's no snobbery when reviewing keyboards like this. Although I do get a laugh out of the odd face pulling moments from time to time 😂 Also love that the first thing that keyboard experienced out of the box was series of complex jazz chords and scales, I wouldn't have expected any less! Not everybody wants to play an acoustic piano in the future. If this is the case, you don't need weighted keys... I would love you could compare 2 or 3 entry level arranger keyboards (not so cheap as this one, but still "entry level" or intermediate): - Casio CT-X5000 (or CT-X3000) - Korg EK-50 - Yamaha PSR-EW410/E463/E373 Thanks.

These are very good for most all of Bach's Music. Big question: Does it have an option for a sustain pedal? The auto-play feature works out well for elementary school music.

I just bought this. It’s nice, but it can’t light up more than 4 keys at the same time. So not great for learning more advanced songs. Is there something wrong with my unit or is that just the way it is? Could you test that out on your unit?
@KeepingOnTheWatch4 жыл бұрын
Gotta say, it looks pretty good for a cheaper priced keyboard. Besides my home digital piano I also have a 61-key Roland so that I can still practice my repertoire, technical requirements etc. when I travel during the week. It was a little pricey but I'm happy. However, this Casio's price is excellent. If it has full-size keys (ie. typical horizontal dimensions across the keys) then this is definitely one to include in your search for an instrument to practice on the go.

Yes but with a maximum of four lights displayed at once. The additional keys that could be lit but are not, still function appropriately. (Synthesia still waits for you to actuate them, as well as those four that are lit.)

Hi, thanks a lot for this video, so helpful. However, I still have some personal questions and advice requests for you. My son is turning 11 this coming Sunday. He's been playing piano for 4 years, in an hour-long collective class every week. He's very soon started to compose, to his level. He's rather prolific, hungry for more. He's asked for his birthday a "synthétiser". Already in itself, it took me days to finally come to the conclusion that it is probably more of a "keyboard" he wants. He wants 61 keys, and is majorly attracted to eighties type synth music. That's what he'd like to play around with. Trying to find the right thing for him is a nightmare. Budget would be about 300€ tops (we are French and live in France). Thanks to you, we've excluded the RockJam which he'd imagined would do the trick. Now we know that, as a non beginner in piano, he'd probably suffer!! That brings me to the safe brands Casio (the model you review here sounds good enough?) and Yamaha, with an equivalent. I haven't found a review of an equivalent from Yamaha. Have you made a video? If not, do you have an idea of an advice of such a product? Do you think this type of keyboard will do the job for him? (Very curious, adventurous, carefree, musically creative and hungry for more). I am the type who prefer to pay a little more, on a rather low budget, and have something that will remain with us longer! If you manage to reply quickly (I'm not just last minute for the birthday, but the more time I've given to this search has led to increasingly more time needed! 😅🥵🤷♀), I'll be hugely grateful! 🙏

You're very welcome! Thank you so much for tuning in and for your questions! While the LKS250 is a great little piano for the money and certainly serves its purpose as an introductory instrument for beginners to explore a variety of different sounds and features, I believe that your son requires something a little more substantial given how long he has been playing for. Budget permitting, the Roland JUNO DS61 is a fantastic synthesizer! This is a professional calibre instrument that would not only excite and inspire now, but many years down the road. You can always explore the used market too. Finding models that are a generation or two older can help increase the cost-to-value ratio you receive from your purchase. Thanks again! Wishing your son a wonderful birthday! :)
@ahaa77502 жыл бұрын
@@MerriamPianos thanks ever so much! So very useful! Unfortunately, we couldn't find any Roland Juno DS61 close enough to our budget. You probably have more options than we do in the USA. We might start to save money to get one like this in the future. We did a very long search and ended up choosing an already top limit budget one: the Yamaha EZ300. Hopefully, he'll have some fun with it, hopefully above the Casio...? 😨😳🤷♀ Thanks again, though, we definitely keep in mind the one you recommended. 🙏

I disagree that it can't be used to learn the piano. It plays just like a piano as a piano does. So that is all that is needed to learn on.
@MerriamPianos2 жыл бұрын
There will be certain limitations. For instance, it is only 61 keys. More advanced piano repertoire will require an 88 key range. Furthermore, the lack of a proper weighted key touch will make certain techniques and expressive element difficult to perform. With that said, it is a good introductory starting point. :)
@2right2bwrong492 жыл бұрын
@@MerriamPianos I said, LEARN to PLAY the piano, not use it to MASTER it. It's a very inexpensive way to BEGIN your musical journey on the piano. Meanwhile, save your money for a Steinway grand piano. ;)

@@MerriamPianos Oh by the way, I used your reviews and decided on the Casio LK S250. I just ordered mine and will have it next week. I like the idea that the sound and key response were impressive. As well as the chords played simultaneously, and not rolled like other keyboards. I'm not worried about all that other stuff right now, just a good quality sound and response.
