I never gave my personal opinion like that. If anything, I said “unfortunately” because the aunt cared deeply about her. Now, what makes you think I haven’t been molested? I mention in because it could be triggering for someone if they have and receive a comment like that. Also, there’s other ways to react to this (which she could learn through therapy) and the authorities know it, so that may had contributed to deciding the girl would be better somewhere else. I don’t see how the judge could blame the aunt or the mother. It’s a known fact that many people immigrate to the US for a better life/jobs while sending money back home. The only difference in this case is that they’re Boriquen so they’re naturalized citizens of the US. Mom was sending money back home to care for her child. I’m sure she would have eventually brought her daughter to live with her as most wind up doing after getting established in a new area. It’s more common than people think. I do question her mental stability given the fact that she was abused by her uncle at such a young age. People are saying the mom abandoned her own daughter for a man? No, she left her daughter to go work. She even said she HAD to leave the house for work in Texas. Their financial situation could have just been that dire. The husband is just an added effect. The fact that she noticed her own daughter giving her husband looks, coupled with the testimony of the daughter...I have no doubt in my mind that Yukeika was probably attracted to and/or on the hunt for her own mother’s husband. If she were daughter and I noticed that too, she would be gone. Why kick out my blameless husband for a fast child? That doesn’t mean she doesn’t love her daughter or won’t provide for her, but if you’re potentially throwing yourself sexually at my husband...daughter or not, you have to go. The aunt is blameless. She is an adult that has to WORK to obtain money in order to pay for bills, clothes, food...you know, basic necessities for living! Who knows what her job situation is like? Perhaps she works multiple jobs. A 17 year old should not be that ignorant when it comes to finances and how one must work to cover expenses. They may not know the ins and outs, but they shouldn’t be as clueless as Yuleika is appearing. The aunt even offered to stop working! She loves her niece and had her niece come to her with concerns of feeling alone/neglected, I’m sure she would have stepped up. Child services? She’s already 17, possibly getting ready to turn 18. It’s too late for her. She will be a legal adult in a few months and can make her own choices, which as we can see, will not include getting therapeutic assistance.

I understand why the judge was angry at the aunt as well. As she said, it's not enough to just work and take a child to school, especially if you are the guardian. You have to protect them and take an interest in their lives. She knew about the uncle's child pornography conviction, and she still chose to keep herself and her niece in the same house with him. She should have never allowed her niece to live there. If she wasn't able to evict him, she should have left and stayed somewhere until she was able to evict him. You can't keep a child away front all danger, but the aunt didn't do everything she could.

THIS!! I know you wrote this comment four years ago, but no one is holding the aunt accountable for letting her creepy brother hang around her underaged niece. Parents and guardians can provide a home, food, and clothes, but that’s the bare minimum. You’re supposed to protect those kids and have open and honest communication.
