I like your style and the manner of your investigation. I've had one for some years. It is a powerful beast. I've machined the wheels to a parallel tread to increase the flange depth which gives me reliability on my C/scale trackwork. I use 460 grade oil and less water just 30-33ml. It makes it easier to start without priming. You have a silver soldered boiler so running it dry isn't a problem! For better running control try reducing your wick height. My jinty stands in for a B/Lowke Enterprise with 5 tinplate bogies on 3' curves.hope this helps,Enjoy Bob W
@Terrys-Steam-and-Bricks2 ай бұрын
Hi Robert. Thanks for the kind words. ☺️ The next time I run it I’ll try less water and wick height as you suggested. I may change the wheels on my old tinplate Hornby to allow it to run on this tack. The Lionel stuff is heavy with the thick plastic and heavy die cast trucks, etc.

@@chriswilliams7480 indeed Chris. Another comment said they have one but they are rare.
@robertcomerford3752 ай бұрын
They are quite good for what they are. There was another similar one made by another firm too (Rochdale?). A few are to be seen here in Oz, plenty in the UK. but not for sale as being used by their owners. Mine likes to run fast so is regulated by the load behind it. Others tell me theirs are similar. Best run indoors given the pot boiler, but mine has performed OK with a light breeze outdoors. Never heard of one with an oscillator. There may be some home made using an oscillator, maybe the Bibby/Henshaw design. I know one owner who may have had the original instruction sheet mentioned 33ml to fill the boiler but he preferred 31ml. Maybe to reduce priming. cheers Bob
@Terrys-Steam-and-Bricks2 ай бұрын
@@robertcomerford375 thanks for the info Bob. I wonder whether the few I have heard of with oscillating cylinders were later repairs/cylinder replacements. Yeah, I think 33 ml is more reasonable. I will be trying it outdoors at some point and will be sure to report out on it. Winter is around the corner so it may be in the spring.

@@associatedblacksheepandmisfits yes indeed! It managed the tin cars in the short. They are so much lighter. I got hold of some vintage Marx wheels to put on the Hornby wagons you gave me.
