I have shimano XT brakes. These videos are just great. I posted on another one you have as well. There is definitely a market for good production videos teaching the subscriber how to do proper maintenance. These are literally some of the best I've found. Please keep it up.

Guys excellent video! I completeld this just now after ordering all the parts. It's literally a 5 minute job! Saved me some money taking it to a shop. Thanks 👍

Yo, sorry for the delay. We are planning on doing more videos in the very near future. Bleeding brakes and replacing cables are at the top of our list! What kind of brakes are you wanting to bleed? (avid, shimano, hayes...?)

Nice vid. Worth also to mention to check for spacers before cassette is put in place. I missed this trick and caused me no end of grief! If you put a 10 speed cassette on an 11 speed hub you need a 1mm and 1.85mm spacer together.

What do you do if your axle is too wide to slide the lock ring on? I have 14mm wide axle and can't find lock rings for that size.
@sweetsbench12 жыл бұрын
you can replace the pads without bleeding as long as the brake is functioning properly. If the lever drops to the bar, before or after replacing pads, then that means there's air in the line and it should be bled. Good luck!

I have shimano XT, the pads are G01a. Do you need to bleed the brakes when you change the pads or can you just swap out the worn out pads?

I had to hold in the lockring tool in with the skewer, put my foot on the chain whip, and hit the wrench with a hammer. That got it moving.

If it's a newer bike, chances are you just need the standard shimano style tool. But if it's an older bike with a freewheel, or Campagnolo, it could be a number of different tools.

David Taylor Here bro what other guy wrote me! I just have different type of the cassette! Check the website! "If you can unscrew your cassette with just the splined tool you have a freewheel, not a freehub. Totally different animal. If you have a freehub cassette then you have to use the chainwhip to hold the sprockets and freehub still while you unscrew the lockring. You can read about the differences between freehub and freewheel at Sheldon Brown's great website on bikes. Here's a link: sheldonbrown.com/k7.html"

Wish I had found this channel before I set upon my bike this morning! Took a whole day and didn't get the cassette cleaned thoroughly at all. When I get the chance -- can I soak the components in gasoline to clean it? Is there any mix of gasoline I should be aware of?
