I really liked the video, its so nice with all the new silent, conveniant technology. Its not easy to record "live" and infront of other people, but you seems so cool and certain about that. Since I am a forkliftoperator, I did the same journey a couple of years ago, from diesel to electric. And I really love the silence! But I still feel more "connection" with the veichle if its not electric in some way. Great video, great job. Thanks for making it for us.

I take it it's like why I can't reliably clutch in computer games: I miss a lot of input from the vehicle. One electric car I had to drive at work once was different as well, because of how it did not keep the brake engaged when releasing it in the D position, but made the growling sound when being near brake biting point. Scariest thing I had to get used to was the fact it could reverse stupidly fast... Other than that: I spent 15 minutes getting it to start :P Luckily the screen was noticing I was pushing buttons and carefully pressing the automatic gear lever and started blinking and gave me a graphical representation of what I had to do eventually :P . I nearly slammed a colleague's head through the front window though when we arrived at our destination and my driving lessons kicked for driving into a parking spot with a raised curb in front: I wanted to press the clutch pedal in. He had already taken off his seatbelt and well, there obviously wasn't a clutch :P.

Another of my favorite ladies with trucks. Love you two girls and also Iwona. It is wonderful to see all you ladies so successful in your profession. These electric trucks are going to be very beneficial for local deliveries and city driving and soon they will be advanced enough for longer haul too. It will be a great savings on fuel costs, maintenance and pollution.

Very nice video Cassie. I agree with some of your feelings and those trucks will work OK for distribution in Europe, but they will be almost useless from a range standpoint in the US because of its size and geography. I am an old food distribution guy and our routes were usually in the thousands of miles for food and other distribution. Also some of the trucks had 3 temperatures (Dry, Cool and frozen) first in last out which effects the time factors greatly. At any rate, Watch Pacar I predice they wil come out with something astoundind probably electric or Hydrogen fuel

But then there are many trucks that don’t go 50 miles from the warehouse. I remember seeing electric trucks back in the 50s that just ran from the docks to the warehouse.
@sadiqmohamed681 Жыл бұрын
@@richardcooke9948 Volvo already have trucks working in LA and SF in California doing the "1st Mile" job. They have chargers at the port and in the warehouse. I live in SW London, UK and my borough now has electric refuse trucks. They charge at the depot, and have V2G. They charge overnight, and some of the electricity is very cheap or a negative charge. The utility pays you to use your chargers! During the day some of the trucks are not used, so the utility gets to use them with V2G to do "peak shaving", ie flattening the peak curves. We also have new battery buses. I saw an interview with one of the fleet managers and he said that they had two reasons for going completely electric. One was the huge reduction on operating costs, and the other was V2G. They can charge at night, and then do V2G during the off peak periods during the day. Like the "1st mile" jobs, city buses have no issue with range. The London buses rarely go more than 35 to 40 miles between charges. The drivers love them because the power delivery and the one pedal driving is so smooth. One interesting thing is that the refuse trucks and at least one of the buses are made by Dennis, a very old British manufacturer, but using batteries and drive trains from BYD, and very new Chinese manufacturer. One the subject of Daimler, they and Volvo have started an independent company just to build their charging infrastructure in Europe. I believe other manufacturers have been invited to join. They have started installing special truck chargers with large battery back-ups at truck stops. They first chargers are either 350KWh or 500KWh, and they have started trialling 1MWh. The future will be interesting!

This is the first step in electric trucks. It starts with the lighter (weight) ones. Sure, for the truck/trailer combination, the truck will need more power. But as time goes by, the batteries will handle that. I could tell from watching this video, that you had to get used to some things with this truck. The big difference, being the absence of real mirrors. Instead, you have camera's installed. But when got used to it, I think, it will be great. I am sure, the truck has a smooth ride. Anyway, thanks again, for this wonderful video from you. I look forward to watch the next one. Stay safe, Cassie.

A really interesting video Cassie. That Merc looked very easy to drive. I tested a Fuso Canter last Saturday at RTX, a commercial vehicle show in the UK. I was really impressed with it as it was the first electric vehicle I've ever driven. I was sceptical, just like you, but it did have mirrors tho!! I can't imagine how long, if ever, I would get used to them 😳. Looked like you enjoyed yourself, can't wait for your next video. Take care.

Wonderful video Cassie, I really enjoyed it and feel as though I learned a few things. I think that your analysis at the end of the video was accurate, distribution trucks is a great place to start and I guess that in some place 300 or 400Km will be enough for one day and then recharge overnight.

I agree with the lady, once you go electric, you never want to go back. Been driving electric myself for 3 years now (just the car, I'm not a truckdriver) and had to use a replacement car for 2 days last week. It was a car with a combustion engine and a manual gearbox. Was I happy when I could pick up my car again at the end of the second day.

Hey Cassie, I genuinely loved your video. It looked like you and the instructor had a good click together, judging by the conversations you had. (I really liked her enthousiasm. "Faster, faster! Kick down! Turbo Boost! Don't care about the speed limit"! :-) ) But all jokes aside, it looked like you had a very good day together. During the video, some questions popped up in my mind. Like : This is all fun and games in summer, but what is the truck's operational range in the winter? Cold weather has a big impact on battery life. And this very nice for city distribution, but what about long distance? And a battery must be able to 'fully' charge within the 45 minute brake time. But you've answered most of them in your epilogue statement, and I have even reviewed Ray Zavorka's comment and your answer to it. And you both make a good statement. Use the right type of fuel for the right type of truck and place! :) Am i sceptical? No, Is it the future? Definitely. But we are not there yet. Before this will be a common-day thing, a lot things has to be changed, and politics will have to be involved. Fuel stations have to be converted to electrical recharging stations, mechanics and truck drivers need to be re-educated, parts need to be standardized, laws have to installed / changed, and so on, and so forth. Don't get me wrong, it is not my intention to build barriers. I support this development, I really do. I just want to point out that we won't be seeing them tomorrow all over Europe just yet. Well, this all being said, I want to thank you for this video, and also your point of view in this matter! I'd almost say that you're becoming quite the influencer! ;-) Thank you very much, stay safe, and keep the shiny side up!

The mirrors seemed like a great idea. Being all electronic hope they are reliable?? Guessing they also include dimming features for nighttime? When the truck is loaded( normal load) what kind of range can you get from a full charge? And with a loaded trailer must be a lot less. Does it have a back up diesel motor? Glad you had a good experience, very quiet and smooth ride! 🥰😎😎🥰

Hello Cassie. I think you'd get into it quickly. I haven't seen your face much, but I hear you're really enjoying it. As with everything else, with minor date differences, manufacturers tend to follow each other in improvements. By that I mean that you may have a SCANIA to work with. I can only compare forklifts, electric and diesel powered, as you said, more comfortable faster and quieter. And cleaner. It was another great experience for you. That's how you get more and more involved in truck driving. That was a great video. Have a nice week. 🚚❤👍😉

My scepticism is about charging stations. It takes 10x more time to charge an electric truck compared to a diesel truck. That would mean you need 10x more charging stations in order to not create long queues for every truck that wants to charge at the same time?
