Not many fishing videos i've watched every second of but this is one. I spent a day down at Cassien 10 years back after i accidentally found it whilst working down in Cannes. Steeped in legend and still fishing despite the extra activity in the water!!

Even so mate , u have to give it to Kev Ellis for the monumental trip there and to catching that big carp, I was at school in Dartford when that happened and even now what they took on was a monumental challenge all that way and to fish and to catch a giant carp was epic I’m so pleased for the man and I’m sure a lot of other anglers feel the same well done Kev. U lucky bugger !
@stevebriggs46385 жыл бұрын
Yes it was 1986 the year I started on there. It was a huge adventure just to get there let alone catch anything with the gear we had then!!!! Kev's capture was one of the great captures for sure.
@Mel-he1hg5 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the lake would produce another 70 plus I haven’t heard of one ? Or if there is any more giants in there
@stevebriggs46385 жыл бұрын
Mel 1 it’s produced several more 70’s over the years in fact there’s hardly been a time when there wasn’t a 70 in there - Matilda, Timotei, Banana, Bernadette, Lucy plus a few that weren’t named. There’s fish over 70 in there still today.

What a fantastic video mate, well done. Breathtakingly stunning lake. What more could you want, the lake, the weather, the Carp, your woman and messing around on a boat, brilliant! Had to subscribe half way through. What I like about it is that you don't come across as a big head at all, just genuine, and no bad language, can just tell you would never leave litter in your swim. If only all anglers were the same. Good man.
@stevebriggs46387 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt thanks very much for the kind words. I guess I've done this for so long because I love it and care about it so I'm glad that comes across. I'm glad you liked the vid and it's one of the main reasons I keep doing them - thanks for subscribing too - there will be a new one in the coming days on my latest trip to Poland so I hope you enjoy that too :-)

Steve briggs Your welcome Steve, as I say if all other anglers were the same it would be fantastic. Fishing seems to attract lowest of the low, not many around like you sir! Great look forward to new video, I cancelled Sky tv recently as I only seem to watch this kind of stuff lately, so couldn't justify the cost!! Keep up the great times pal. All the best.

Steve....... I'm just re-watching this, it's so awesome, don't don't where you are right now, but I'm in the UK got blizzard snow and red weather warning in some areas!! You video couldn't be further from the situation here!!! It helps me by watching it, to almost imagine I'm there too, carping with you in the sunshine, fantastic times, roll on the summer, I can't wait to get catching again. Steve, at some point I might want to discuss rigs and tactics with you, specifically rigs, would that be ok? What's the best way/ place to do that? Are you ok with talking about your methods?? Kindest regards mate. Matt

So glad youre still sharing your Cassien experiences after all these years. A joy to watch. Would love to see some really old footage if you have any?...
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
I do have some old stuff on video going back to 1996 but I don't know how many people would want to see that? Plus the quality would be really bad and not really put together in any order as such - but maybe one day :-)
@matmc718 жыл бұрын
To be honest Steve, I would watch an hour of un-edited, out of focus old footage purely because I love watching old carp footage. There are some short little Yately Copse lake videos from early 90s on youtube that arent shot properly but capture the time and the place. I went to Cassien in 2002 and it seams to have changed a lot since even since then with the amount of pedalo's etc. I'd watch anything that involves carp and history, im a retro kinda guy! As you say, maybe one day! All the best.
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
Maybe I'll have a look at doing it some time when it's quiet - I've got quite a bit thinking about it as I did a fair bit around 2002 that was used on one of the Sky TV programmes so I guess it would be nice to get them back up as they are just shoved away in a drawer somewhere :-)
@matmc718 жыл бұрын
+Steve briggs Sounds good to me! It was videos like your "Cassien love affair" and Hutchies "Dream at Madine" that got me into Euro carping around that time and im sure im not the only one! Good luck with it, if and when you do decide to do it. ☺👍

There is nothing quite like a Provencial thunderstorm. The sky turns a moody purple as you sit mesmerised, watching the storm come rolling in, then suddenly all hell breaks loose as you're hit by torrential rain, lighting and thunder. I was fishing the first lake down the side of the A7 autoroute just outside of Cavallion once when a big one as described above hit. I quickly retreated to my car, which was parked next to the lake and watched as lightning strike after lighting strike set my bite alarms off flashing and beeping wildly, only to realise the water level was rising fast and I was in danger of losing my car too! It was proper scary taking those rods down, I can tell you. :D A great video Steve, thank you.
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
Yes those thunderstorms down there are a bit special - in fact all of the weather systems make the experience what it is :-) I don't know how many storms I've lived through down there over the years but they do raise the heart rate a bit!!!!!

I always either learn new things or am reminded of what to do on the big French lakes each time I see a Brigsy video. Time and time again the messages....keep it simple....never expect it to be as it was last year....try different swims and different depths until you find them. Why then do still make the same old mistakes of overbaiting, expecting them to come to me, not varying depths as much, thinking I have to have to latest go to pop up rig when then eat stuff off the bottom in the end? I honestly think people don’t believe Steve catches on the rigs and set ups he shows but I know he’s right. I only wish I could do it more simply too and not try too hard! But then I never will have the experience of Steve on Cassien, few ever have and that counts for so much. Well done Steve too for being polite answering those questions “do you eat them” and “what kind of fish is that?” Just part and parcel of fishing public French lakes in holiday season. Thanks most for being open about what you do and keeping it real. Hope you enjoy many more Cassien sessions in future!
@stevebriggs46386 жыл бұрын
james russel thanks so much James for the really nice message!!! It took me many years to realise that most of the barriers to catching fish are in our own heads. Get rid of all that clutter and the distractions and the basics are really very simple - I firmly believe that. I totally understand how easy it is to get drawn in to thinking that you need to be doing more technical and complicated stuff but I’ve found a way that works just about everywhere on easy and difficult waters and it’s just what I show in these films - basic tackle and tactics and baits that are available to everyone. Thanks James 👍🏻👍🏻
@jamesrussel11336 жыл бұрын
It’s me who should be thanking you Steve. To be honest I don’t know why I started following the crowd. If you copy others and stop thinking for yourself then they only thing that’s certain is you will never do any better than those you copy, probably worse because they did it first. I was lucky enough to own a lake in France for over 10 years. I think I had forgotten than most of what they ate was what I put in for them and was picked up from the bottom eventually. Many of the older rigs I used with actual separation between bait and hook never really stopped working I just began to think they had or that the latest fad rig would do better. Your vid has made me realise I just need to go back to the basics i know, make things less complicated. Try not worry so much that a wonder rig or bait is the answer. And yes sometimes accept too that a water has been hammered or the weather just isn’t right for feeding, you simply couldn’t get on the fish on a busy water, or others have ruined your chances by filling the place in with bait. It isn’t always that you are doing anything seriously wrong if you aren’t catching! Look forward to hearing more of your exploits in future Steve.

Cassien was my "home" away from home, I fell in love with the place as soon as I arrived the very first time (about 25 years ago). The last couple of years I'v not been able to get back there, but it keeps calling me back and after seeing your video that call has grown stronger.... I need to get back asap. Can you still stay at the lake during the night or do you need to pack up and leave every single night? In the past we could "arrange" something with the guards to stay at the lake but we had to reel our lines in til the morning.

great film that I've watched it about 10 times . Steve I've noticed your markers out even at close range, is there any reason for this ?
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul - thanks for watching - so many times too!!!! Yes the markers - they are not marking anything as such they are purely to let the boat and pedal people and swimmers know that there are lines there, otherwise if they don't see lines they end up going through them. So my answer was to pin the lines down in front of the rod tips with stones and then put the markers just at a safe distance either side of the lines and it stopped any dramas :-)

Yes I do still fish in the UK - it's not been a bad year actually with fish up to 46.4 from home waters but it's generally shorter sessions and so I don't film them as much but I do spend most of my time on the continent as I just prefer that style of fishing and the atmosphere...

U look at the fish I catch in North Wales witch my biggest is 8lb then I look at the ones u are catching and I'm like WOW
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
It's just a matter of what's in the water you're fishing. 8lb is a great fish if they don't go much bigger :-)

How did you get into angling on the continent? Must have been much less convenient back in the day, hardly something you'd have a go at on a whim
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
The start of the vid sort of explains it really. I went to Cassien 30 years ago, my first trip outside of the uk. It was nothing like today, Cassien was the first water I knew of in Europe and there was no real advice - it was just a matter of looking at the map and loading the car and then hoping for the best!!!! I saw the catches of RodHutchinson and Kevin Ellis and just wanted to go......
@DjDolHaus868 жыл бұрын
Ahh sorry, I didn't realise that Cassien was the beginning of your European adventures. Can't fault your passion, long way to go to chuck it and chance it (so to speak), must have made quite the impression if you return year after year. Do you ever fish more intimate venues abroad? Most of the stuff I see from the continent is on massive reservoirs and such like and I was just wondering if there were any Redmire-like venues (small, mature ponds full of weed and snags).

Yes I fish abroad once or twice every month, so in that time I've fished waters of all shapes and sizes - have a look at my other videos there is one water called the Secret Garden and that is small and full of lily pads like an old English estate lake :-)

A place of dreams.. Hope they never open for nights.. It would ruin it.
@stevebriggs46388 жыл бұрын
It sure is Dan. I can't see it ever happening, I used to love the nights especially in the winter when it was really quiet but there is something good about it being just day fishing these days for sure :-) :-)

Get some water on that first fish Steve, she's looking dry in the sun.

thanks for the great tip, any more advice please let me know ;-)......... but actually if you look closely you can see the water running off the fish and down my arms ...............
