Casstrom Field Strop in the field

Casström knives come shaving sharp out of the box and to help maintain that keen edge we have produced our own range of handcrafted leather strops.
The Field Strop is our pocket or pack option and is a handy size to take on outdoor trips. The Paddle Strop has a larger strop area and is perfect for a sharpening session at home or at basecamp.
What is a strop and why are they useful?
A strop is used to maintain the sharpness of the edge of the knife. They are easy to use, and if you strop every time the knife has been used, the sharpness is maintained longer, and this means that you do not need to sharpen the knife as often with other coarser sharpening tools such as a diamond or whetstone.
You use the strop by placing the edge of the knife against the leather and pulling the knife in the direction of the knife spine (i.e. you pull the blade away from the edge). Repeat the procedure about 20 times on each side.
One side has a rougher surface and the other a finer one. On the coarser side, if you want, you can apply stropping paste for increased sanding effect.

These are handcrafted products made of natural materials - no two strops are the same. May have slight aesthetic imperfections to the finish.

En strigel används för att underhålla och skapa den absoluta skärpan på knivens egg. Strigeln är lätt att använda och om den används efter varje tillfälle kniven har använts så bibehålls skärpan längre och det gör att du inte behöva slipa kniven lika ofta med andra grövre slipverktyg som till exempel diamantbrynen.
Du använder strigeln genom att lägga knivens egg mot lädret och dra kniven i knivryggensriktning (ifrån eggen) . Upprepa proceduren cirka 20 gånger på varje sida.
Ena sida har en grövre yta och den andra en finare. På den grövre sidan kan man om man vill applicera slippasta för ökad slipeffekt.
Striglarna från Casström är handgjorda av italienskt vegetabiliskt garvat 3,5 mm tjockt läder och har en kärna av europeisk vaxad ek.
Striglarna finns i två olika storlekar:
Fältstrigeln har ett smidig format, perfekt att alltid ha med sig i fält.
Vikt: 60g. Dim: ca 13x3x1,7cm. (artnr 10450)
Paddelstrigeln har en större yta att arbeta på och är perfekt hemma eller i baslägret.
Vikt: 200g. Dim: ca 28x4,5x3cm inkl handtag. (artnr 10460)
