Hi Bun! Thanks so much for your lovely comment, and feedback. I appreciate it! This tutorial was a part of my exclusive acrylic painting lessons that I used to offer on Kofi - so that is why that information is not listed as I was providing it in those premium classes. Moving forward, I will definitely add in that information to my future videos. The sandy colour, I have used titanium white, yellow, burnt sienna, and a bit of burnt umber in places. I hope this helps!

@@cassydraws Hi Cassy, thanks so much for your promt reply. I am really fascinated at the way you bring this lion to life! I myself am passionate about the wildlife animals in the African bush and I am in the evening years of my life, but have attained this enthusiasm for painting animals at a very late stage of my life - I suppose because now I have more time for myself - it is so therapeutic and I am really keen to learn. I’m actually working on a lion for my husband I’ve got my second layer down, it looks like ugh no form maybe and do I start with the eyes and move out ?? do I need to start using a smaller brush?? And also is there a brush that makes the fur effect ? Instead of doing each brush stroke . I can draw all day but it’s taking me a few years and I still haven’t even thought about figuring painting out. Thx
@cassydraws Жыл бұрын
Hi there! :) Typically in my paintings I start with the eyes and move outwards. I like to get the likeness down first, to ensure the piece looks how I intend it too, and is as realistic as possible before I begin any other textures. I recommend using a larger/medium size brush first, depending on the size of your canvas, and slowly decrease the size of the brush as you layer. If you begin too small it can cause you to paint slower, and I find the layering gets a little funny when you're too precise, too quickly. There are a few brushes like fans and such that can help with texture, but I personally use liners, rounds, and filberts to create my fur texture. Old, crusted over brushes work well for fur texture too, especially those that may be a bit rougher and more defined. I hope this helps, and best of luck in your painting journey! Remember it is a marathon, not a sprint! :) Be patient with yourself, and you'll get it right, I know it! ♥

11/13/22 Cassy, @11:50 of this vid you are using a very small one hair brush why? Did you use a regular pencil to sketch block this piece?
@cassydraws2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dani! Thanks so much for your questions. I use smaller brushes for most of my pieces as it allows me the most control. I tend to be very heavy handed with my brushes, so they flare a lot making the brushstrokes bigger. I have found that reducing the size of the brush helps with this, and keeps my painting much tidier and more precise. I have been trying to practice using larger brushes to make my life a little easier, haha! As for the sketch, yes. I used a regular pencil - nothing special. I hope this helps! :)

Hi Julie! Thank-you so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment. I'm so glad to hear that you liked this tutorial - I hope the others are just as helpful to you in your art journey! What are your thoughts on the iPad and Procreate? I have dabbled but have not spent nearly enough time using it; I'd love your thoughts! Cheers. :)
@julz632 жыл бұрын
@@cassydraws I absolutely love Procreate, and my passion is wildlife art. I used to use traditional art supplies, but found that I could reproduce realistic portraits using Procreate without the mess associated with the “traditional “ way. I suffered an acquired brain injury in 2013 and was encouraged to use art as part of my rehabilitation and therapy so that’s where Procreate really helped me, although I do miss the aroma and sensory experience of using art supplies when drawing ☺️ But it’s a fair trade off for not having the mess to clear away. One less thing for me to worry about. I have found that I really love using a digital prismacolor pencil to create my wildlife portraits, and I’ve even been able to make some of my own digital brushes. Using the Apple Pencil is also like using a real brush because it’s so intuitive and pressure sensitive. Thank you for taking the time to ask me my opinion on Procreate, it’s been literally a life saver for me, and gives me easy access to create art whenever I need to. Watching tutorials like yours inspires me to maybe change something up in my process, but at other times they confirm that my technique is going to give me realistic results. Your tutoring style really resonated with me, you sound like we share the same sense of humour and I really enjoyed listening to your banter as you painted. The other great thing about using Procreate is that there is no chance of overworking the paper/ pastel mat , and the undo function is brilliant 😅 There is the amount of layers you can use, or challenge yourself to painting on just one layer. I think you should definitely give Procreate a try and I’m sure you’ll find it useful for sketching ideas too. Best wishes, Julie 😊
