Something you may not have exactly caught was that when he left the package and then met the woman who owned it later. He turns around a few times and then ends up looking down the road that the woman drove down. I truly believe that's him realizing that the "wings" on the package that saved him and the woman in the truck were always his destiny. This is the new day. The tide has brought him here. And hes going to go forwars. He's going to go down that road. He's going to find this woman. And he's going to have a life. He might have lost Kelly. but now he has a second chance at life and at love. It may not be with Kelly but the future looks bright for our boy. He's going to be just fine 😭🙏💜

That is exactly my analysis and how I have imagined it turned out, as well! Good job writing it so well. I could have said the same thing but prolly would have taken me 5 paragraphs. LOL I've also imagined a narrative that had Chuck not crashed, his obsession with time and his fast paced life would have destroyed him and Kelly eventually. While the island took Kelly, it taught him, a man obsessed with time and speed, to slow down. He learned that there were other things in life that were more important than the "sin of losing track of time."

The first few times I saw this movie, I didn't grasp the full significance of Wilson. It _took_ me a while to get to the point where I understood why he was significant, and why his _loss_ was so significant. Human beings are _social_ animals. It's a rare human being not possessed of the need not to go too long without seeing other _faces;_ even fairly _crude_ ones. When Chuck loses Wilson, the grief he displays is over the suffering of a fundamental part of his own _humanity._
@lethaldose20002 жыл бұрын
Hey Trixy Blue, the beauty of Tom Hanks as an actor is that his combination of determination, strength, and willingness to be vulnerable makes him perfect to portray so many stories. Someone once said, "We could have cast someone else to play his many roles, but would we have cared so much if it wasn't Tom Hanks."

Human beings have a unique relationship with fire. Every _other_ wild animal survives by instinctively _avoiding_ it, so _we_ first rose to dominion over the natural world by _controlling_ fire. Thus, the animals that instinctively avoided fire came to avoid _us._
@sixstanger002 жыл бұрын
"Ditch" in aviation means attempt a controlled crash into the sea. A quick summary on waves: There are always waves in the ocean, no matter where you are. They are produced by wind moving across the water's surface. Waves get pushed along with winds. The stronger the winds, the larger the waves. The reason they are "visible" around land masses is because as the water becomes more shallow, the energy from the wave starts to compress (because there's less distance under the water's surface for it to disperse). This is why waves get sharper/taller closer to land; the wave no longer has an open ocean to spread out on, so as it pushes against the immovable land mass, it compresses. Eventually, the wave becomes so tall/sharp that it can no longer support it's own weight, which is why waves "crash" at the shoreline. The crashing of waves causes seafoam, which is the white trails you saw surrounding the island. A "wave" is merely the manifestation of energy traveling through a medium (in this case, water). An underwater earthquake or a meteorite impact will also cause massive waves (called tsunamis), but the "wave" exists for the same reason - energy is moving through the water.
@mrichards67952 жыл бұрын
What the pilot meant by "ditching" - to crash land as smoothly as possible, I think. In this case, the cockpit had no control on how they were going to crash because the storm was too strong. Good reaction.

I love when you see the whale! What surprise. In university we called this “virtuoso” performance where, while it is not a solo performance, most of the action revolves around one character. Cyrano de Bergerac and The Martian are examples of this. To be successful, the acting of the central player has be spot on, Hanks nailed it!

The interesting thing about self-dentistry, if you've ever had the misfortune to have applied it to yourself, is that almost no action that would resolve your incessant pain seems absurd at the time. My heart always goes out to you whenever you cry! (8:29-8:37) If I remember correctly it contained medical supplies, flares, and an emergency locator transmitter. (18:29) It didn’t look like the coral went through his leg, but it did leave a nasty wound that got infected. Ironically Tom Hanks later said that he actually did suffer a cut to his leg during shooting which caused a nasty infection that put him in the hospital for three days, and almost killed him. For other great films staring Tom Hanks I would definitely recommend Apollo 13, Big, Road to Perdition, Captain Phillips, A League of Their Own, and Turner & Hooch.

Cresting waves come to the shore. In the middle of the ocean, waves work like you see when the plane crashes and Chuck is on the raft, it just looks like water swelling up and down, like dunes in a sandy desert. That's because there's "infinite" water on all sides so the only direction for the wave to go is up. As the water gets shallower and ground rises up at the shore, there isn't as much water in that direction to swell up, so as the wave goes up, it starts to flow toward that "empty" space and the wave crests and falls to the shore.

Trixy FYI when we say ditch on airplane it means its a controlled emergency landing of an aircraft on water. And another thing we dont have "parachuts" on commercial or cargo airplanes because in reality they wouldn’t be able to save lives. Some of the reason for this are: 1 Parachuting requires extensive training, thus making it impractical to use as a emergency safety solution. 2 Most airplane accidents occur on takeoff or landing, with only 10% of incidents happening mid-air. 3 Commercial or cargo airplanes travel at speeds too great to be able to parachute out. 4 airliners fly too high, if you were to jump out at 35,000 breathing will become an issue. consider yourself educated about this matter.

not completely sure, but the thing on the raft that gets caught and rips loose was probably some type of radio transponder so rescue teams could locate him in the raft. There are so many interesting facts about this movie, as well as amazing scenes. Although one of my favorite stories about Cast Away is that Tom Hanks actually injured himself on coral in that scene, and his foot became infected. He tried to power through it, but eventually went to see a doctor. Good thing he did too because the doctor said if he waited any longer he may have died from the infection. It brings an element of real survival of the actor to the character he was playing.

Great reactions young Blue. If you watch it again there are little clues to that package. Remember in the beginning that lady at the ranch sent a package. The sign at the ranch had two names on it. The package went to a guy in Russia, he was the one in the cowboy hat. That guy sent the package back, supposedly with signed divorce papers in it. Tom saved this one to deliver. He liked the wings. He even painted those wings on the plastic shelter (that flew away) on his raft that he used as a sail. When he did deliver that package there was only one name on the sign at the ranch, one had been cut off. So apparently, she is now single. The wings on the truck got his attention and all we can deduce, from him just standing and staring is that maybe he drove back to her ranch. We can only hope anyway. But great job Blue, we love your reactions.

The Package saved him by giving him a Reason to keep going. To Deliver the one Package he never Opened. In the end, he was standing at the Crossroad in many ways, but he knew each one had a separate Path for him, he just had to pick one and continue his Journey... Just like we all do.

8:20 parachuting off at 900 km/h is impossible. You would get ripped into shreds when the engines suck you in. And you can not open the doors unless the pressure inside and outside are the same.

As many times as I've seen this, I've never noticed the Swiss Knife on the keys 😱
