It works, but like any maintenance, must be done regularly.

You're the first person ive ever heard argue against fabric softener. Every old school angler here on the Florida coast that I know, always does a fabric softener soak every so often. I know one guy that's been throwing the same Bett's 12' net since 1988!! I soak mine about every month, use it multiple times a week. Cast nets would last me about a year in the past when I never cared for them and left them in the sun. I now have a 8' mako net (same net you have in the video I believe) and I properly care for it and soak it in water/softner every so often, wash after every use, and it makes a world of difference. Also, fresh vs salt water usage makes a huge difference. In salt water, the salt will build up in the knots and eventually loosen the knots. Also fish slime, the slime will turn into an ammonia based substance over time and degrade the mono much like bleach will. Ive learned first hand, proper care will make your net last forever. If you treat them like I use to treat them, you'll get about a year of heavy use before they start ripping easily and won't open properly. On a side note, these MAKO nets (like the one I believe you have in the video) are absolutely excelent. Ive thrown a $160 old salt net my buddy has and I think these MAKO's are better quality. Great nets!!

100% accurate. Fabric softener eventually washes out and must be reapplied. Warm water does "relax" the mono and make the net easier to throw. I soak in fabric softener because IT DOES WORK if you're willing to reapply it as needed.

Try to leave your cast net inside the bucket outside in the hot sun, lid closed with warm water adding a lot of fabric softener. Leave it for 4 days. Tell me if it gets any softer. It works for me.

Well yeah youre soaking in warm/hot water.... Its mono... Of course its gonna get soft.... But then dry it out amd youve got the same issue of a stiff net... Except you have now weakened the mono netting.... Fabric softener ABSOLUTELY WORKS!!! You just have to continually care for the net.... I soak mine for 4-8 hours amd then thoroughly rinse and hang to dry.... Usually once every 4 to 6 weeks
