Oh my gosh. I'm a crocheter trying to teach myself to knit. I have watched about a dozen of these cast-on videos and was starting to think I would NEVER learn how to do it. Thank you so much for a clear, simple way to cast on Maybe I'll be a knitter yet!

Very good demonstration! I learned to knit 60 years ago! lol We were taught this method by saying a little rhyme. "In through the bunny hole, round the wee tree, out through the bunny hole and off goes she."

Judy, My mother is terminally ill. I am constantly trying to find things for her to do to keep her spirits up. She used to do the most extraordinary knitting projects. She agreed to try knitting again but was having trouble remembering how to cast on. I do lots of different types of crafts but never learned how to knit so I couldn't help her. Last night I found your video and successfully casted on the first 43 stiches. She was thrilled. So there you go, your video helped to give my mother another reason to live. Thank you very, very much.

I am in a similar situation, my nan taught me how to knit, crochet and sew when I was 6, however she would always cast on and cast off for me, she sadly passed away when I was 12, I still kept knitting and would get help from her sister, my great aunty who sadly passed away late last year, then when I was abit older I felt ready to learn how to cast on but then I suffered a traumatic brain injury and never learnt, this video is exactly the way my nan cast on and even on occasions would try to show me and teach me, I just felt it too confusing for some reason, today marks the day she passed away and first time in almost 10 years since my first tbi I feel ready to pick up knitting again, I hope you have managed to learn how to cast on and start knitting again, I'm sure your grandma will be so proud of you for picking up knitting again and learning to cast on

@@tvaholicsquidney - Oh my goodness, this actually made me tear up. Firstly, I am so very sorry for the loss of both your grandmother and great aunt. One of my favorite great aunts (my grandmothers sister-in-law) passed away maybe 8 years ago and I was utterly devastated by it. I also have trauma-related cognitive issues so found knitting both very soothing, but also very frustrating because I would forget whether I was doing the knit or purl stitch halfway through a row. My first attempt at a scarf is a little wonky, but I'm going to embroider a bit on it and use it as a wall hanging tapestry. Your kindness has motivated me to start again, so thank you so much for that. I hope you're having the best day you can, friend.

@@evrichardson6995 Hi Ev, thank you for your kind words, I'm sorry about the loss of your great aunt, I hope you are remembering the good times you two had together. I just thought I'd check in to see how you have got on, I'm going to be honest I sort of forgot and only remembered yesterday when I saw my bag of wool I'd got and the new knitting needles I'd got from my local knitting shop, these new ones are the ones I'd used for years and I'd learnt on the metal ones and using bamboo didn't feel the same so am going to try and do some knitting tomorrow and hope for the best with the new metal knitting needles I'd got (I got two pairs and when they knocked together I just was transported back to when I was a young child sat next to my nan knitting away hearing the sound of the metal knitting needles hitting each other, it made me smile), I'm going to try and crochet a blanket as well however not going to put too much on my shoulders and just start off relatively slow by knitting a scarf in the griffindor colours of harry potter, I understand about the frustrating about forgetting which type of stitch you are on, I hope you manage a way around this, my nan used to have the knitting pattern (written and bought) and would put something (that didn't roll) on said pattern and would move it down everytime she went to the next stitch/row, this way she wouldn't forget which line/stitch she was doing at that time, it also helped when she was mid way through and had to go sort tea/dinner out, hope this helps yourself out, I'd use either a ruler or maybe a safety pin if you have any and that way you put the safety pin over said line, when you finish move it down so you can see inside the safety pin which line/row/stitch you are currently on, hope you are well and staying safe, take care, siobhan.

@@tvaholicsquidney Hi Siobhan, thank you so much for checking up on me. It was my grandma's birthday the end of October and that was really rough; I don't feel ready to be without her, and yet it has somehow already been almost three years? I had a really big cry and it helped me feel a bit lighter. The Gryffindor scarf sounds like a great project, and I will definitely look into getting knitting patterns with the safety pin! How are you holding up? Are there any other sounds that make you think of your nan or your great aunt? Take good care, Ev.

Using my husband's PC, but just wanted to say that this video is excellent! I've been knitting for years, self taught and hate casting on. Watching this video, very precise, has helped me to see where I was making my mistake. One note, when you say pull the need to the front, note that the need comes under the loop you've created. That's where I used to mess up and my first loop was always twisted, But you have helped immensely!

I've been crocheting about six years, and I'm trying to learn how to knit. I like the look of knit better but it was always intimidating. My grandmother taught me the basics many many years ago, but I forgot everything. I got this on my third try, we'll see how I go! Thank very much.

Perfect for me! I've never done any knitting before and this was a great pace without having to rewind because of all the repetition.

Thanks so much for this Judy, it really makes sense to me. I am a returning knitter and didn't want to keep asking friends to help me get started. Now I've seen your video, I feel confident to try it for myself.

This is very similar to how I learned to knit many years ago. I am starting to get back into it. All those lovely knits in the series Outlander are making me want to knit a cozy cowl. Great video. Speed was perfect.

I just found your video and I wanted to thank you. I taught myself to knit 30 yrs. ago but got so frustrated with the cast on method the book taught me, with the 2 long strands, I gave up. I could never figure out how much to leave on the tail end to cast on the amount of stitches I needed. Now I'm back and trying to learn new methods. I'm so glad I found your's.

Judy, I have watched many tutorials but just couldn't get the "casting on" part. Everyone does it differently, and yours by far is the easiest. I was about to just give up but you helped me stay with it. Thank you so much!

Thank you for showing the cast on in this slow manner. Easy to follow. I can cast on as I watch the video at the same time.
