A video guide series on resin casting everything on a GameCube controller. From the ABXY, Start, Dpad, Z and triggers, thumb sticks and even casting rubber on thumb sticks, and finally casting GameCube controller shells, both front and back.
This introduction includes everything you’ll need from equipment to materials in order to cast each item.
This is the second video in a series that goes in depth on mold making. We'll be making molds for all parts of the gamecube controller that'll you need for casting.

I've cast tabletop wargaming terrain for years now and this is an EXCELLENT tutorial for casting period! Perfect for controllers, but great for scale models too! Well done!

So I love the videos and am extremely grateful for all of it, I do want to highlight 1 part. Trimming the C-stick nubs off (8:30) will make them fall off after some use. After about 2 weeks of play they will come off slowly. This is after 2 weeks of competitive play and extreme SDI inputs using the cstick. So i'd recommend you keep the csticks as is and cap them without trimming.

Interesting, in my experience so long at the rubber is mixed in the proper ratio and properly pressure casted and cured under heat I’ve never had a c stick rubber pop off. I’ve made myself a personal set that’s still going strong for over a year and I’d consider my level of play competitive. Aside from that- it is an optional modification, as stated in the video 👍🏼

Another potential workaround for your inhibition problem was to coat the inhibiting item with an acrylic clear coat or something like that.

This does work, however you get a different texture on the rubber than you would OEM- it also adds a bit of thickness

Hey Zach. I have a question about the Z button. Because they have an attached metal bar to actuate the button on the circuit board and your mold doesn't include that bar, how do you make sure you can have all your created Z buttons work? Is there a store you use or do you have a method to replace those little metal bars? I really liked this series by the way! This is such a good resource to draw from.

Good question! Most people use the metal bar from their OEM set.

How many uses do you usually get from a single set of molds? I'm going to dive into modding controllers for my local community but I felt like asking a few questions before :o

I need to duplicate the rubber buttons for a Wonderswan. I should use tin cure silicone to make the mold and cast a resin model like you did to then make another mold or can I cast the rubber in the tin cure silicone mold? Thanks!

I understand the use of the vacuum chamber, but could the molds be done adequately without the use of the pressure pot? I looked at the price of the model you have from Smooth-On, and $900 is steep.
@ezemar2

Depends on the parts you are making. For example things such as gamecube face buttons could be done without a pressure pot, but triggers, sticks and shells cannot.
