I live in a town in Montana. Lewis and Clark stayed here. I was metal detecting and found a cool lead ingot about 16 inches underground. Really made me wonder when and who last handled it. So much cool history out there.

Yes I can. I hunt here actually. Once in a great while I carry my Ruger, but not typically, and definitely not during hunting season as its illegal in MA

Alot of things are explained in earlier vids. ie; cal. .54 so the mold is a .54 round ball, getting lead ..he got his from turkeyfoot trading company and forge llc, along with most of his equip...pouring lead ball or anything lead is easy if you heat your lead to molten and then be careful to never get water on molten lead it explodes..This is however too much fun to do.

Really enjoying this series. Thanks. 3 books I'm sure you have 1) A Pilgram's Journey by Mark A. Baker (Vol. 1 my favorite), 2) Firearms, Traps, and Tools of the Mountain Men by Carl P. Russell and 3) which you recommended, Seedtime on the Cumberland by Harriette S. Arnow. Keep this series coming!

Great video Derek! I'm surprised it takes so short of time for the lead to firm up. If the old timer's carried lead bars to make their own bullets - what would they have used to break them up into smaller pieces? An axe maybe? Thanks for posting this video, and am looking forward to see you shoot the flintlock!

Good video Sarge..Looked like alot of tin floating on that lead..Hope it wasn't wheel weights. Tin ruins the rigling in the barrel. If you need pure lead let me know I have 300# of it. 20 round ball = 20 deer right? This should be fun to watch you shoot

Sarge. It is important to mention that lead must be handle with caution and that appropriate personal protection is deemed necessary. lead poisoning is a very serious condition to health and hunting/ eating small games with lead bullets is a concern. Could you use bismuth-tin instead of lead for making round bullets? nice video. Gracias.

Sure, but my point was that I don't see there being any Tae Kwon Do video lessons anytime soon. He's casting round ball, there's your defense against humans. It shouldn't have to be spelled out that if you're attacked, you brandish your weapon. Unless you want videos of forging brass knuckles and how to strategically hide knives under your pillow. Simply: protecting yourself is self explanatory. Preparing yourself, watch the videos. Not everything has to be prepping for martial law.

Sarge.. There is nothing like casting your own round ball. Let's get that smoke pole fired up! Don't let anyone tell you that you can't shoot wheel weights (it' a a load of bunk) and must use pure lead only in a rifled muzzle loader. As long as you don't use an extremely hard alloy, you will be just fine and it won't hurt a thing. A smooth bore however, will shoot most anything that you put down the barrel. If you like casting round ball, it won't be long before you are making buck shot and bird shot as well, all of which can be done with simple tools and a campfire. Shad

Mass blows except for the Red Sox. I'm sure the environmental do gooders would be freaking out that molten lead was out in the open. Alert the hazmat crews. Great vid! I'm looking to get out of the People's Republic when my kids are out of high school.
