This is my favourite movie of all time. Yes favourite all time, all genres movie and not just favourite anime. I love this so much I bought the DVD, the Blu-Ray and later the UK import Blu-Ray just to be able to listen to the Disney cast and the great Mark Hamill. I love this movie more than any other piece of art or media. I love it even more than Evangelion.

Yep, same! This is my favorite movie of all times (animated or not). Everything just feels right in this, everything falls into place exactly the way I like it when watching a movie. And it have many elements of what I really like in a good story, mysteries, adventure, small individuals fighting a threat way bigger than them (yes, for some reason I love this trope). And a deep anti war message. Love it!

Not sure I like this translation. The version I watch as a kid is different. Sheeta's realization of Laputa's fall was because Laputains chose to live in the sky as gods, 'cut the roots' and sever their connection to mother earth. Their advance technology of floating in sky is the reason why they fall. It's more poetic then just 'people can't live without love'.

Stupid english translation with that silly "compassion" and "deserve" line. In Japanese she just said: "There is no king without a kingdom." Which is why she quoted the poem about the former sky people abandoning the floating cities to live simple lives with nature on land. It's simple logic: Muska can't declare himself a king because THE PEOPLE OF THE KINGDOM ALREADY LEFT A LONG TIME AGO. How can one be a leader if there is no one to lead? An emperor if there is no empire? There was no need to overdramatize the line.
