A short film about the exploration of Castleguard Cave, Canada. Probably the hardest trip I have ever done. Awesome edit by Darryl Jensen, Aquatic Films.

The J-cuts, the interview lighting, the simple graphics, the subtitles only when needed and the lack of any music results in a true masterpiece of storytelling. It is the complete opposite to the too common “polished turd” content out there today. Just keeping it simple and not just trying to get eye candy pulls you into the story. Love the long form videos, keep it up.

Polished turd 😂 yeah there seems to be a huge focus on like post production to a lot of music and videos when the content is just weak to begin with. So yeah polish that turd 😆

I mean, he got international news coverage, did dozens, perhaps hundreds, of interviews all across the world, was awarded an Order of Australia medal and was subsequently made joint Australian of the Year in 2019 with his colleague Craig Challen, and a world-renowned actor played him in a movie directed by Ron Howard, so... I reckon he's pretty famous :)

After I watched this I went to like the video and was shocked it didn’t have millions of views. Incredible. All my years of open water diving, and I really have only gotten a tiny taste of what the sport has to offer.

This is amazing. I will never make even a trip like that took you to the entrance to the cave, that’s for sure. 😀 I’m watching this from the comfort of my home, and just amazed by the sights and the will/crazyness of you guys. Just curius, after a trip like this, after arriving home, how much time does it takes that you convince yourself you are not crazy and you want to go back for an other trip? 😀 It would take me half a year of resting, just phisically.

Sadly not, the cave can rapidly flood in summer so it's too dangerous to be in there.

Was the altitude a factor for your dive? I know 20m is nothing for you all but I would assume you were at, or above, 10,000' in elevation which would put you over the altitude adjusted NDL and the video didn't mention any deco time. I guess you did spend a number of days at that elevation before you dove, so maybe a nonissue.
@DrHarryH
@DrHarryH 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. With such a shallow dive it is not an issue obviously. But altitude diving is very much easier with modern computers that take into account the surface barometric pressure before the dive and automatically factor it in.

Luv this stuff .... though I don't get why such brilliant capable people don't do deep sea instead, where animal and plant life is abundant to be discovered or why it seems so much effort goes into a dive which is cut short once real territory is broken into .

Well, we now know the cave continues beyond the sump and Canadian cavers are already planning a return to explore it further. The point, is science and exploration.

@@DrHarryH science of what? we're all aware of how caves are formed. exploration of what? are we going to open a starbucks down there? lol i don't get it. I hope nobody throws their life away to go see some ice underground in a cave somewhere.. whatever. crazy people. good luck!
@DrHarryH
@DrHarryH 2 жыл бұрын
@@danielgarrett7226 actually is there is a massive amount still to learn about cave genesis, hydrology and cave biology to name just a few aspects. Caves contain information about climate change and weather patterns, palaeontology, the origins of life on earth. So nobody will be "throwing their life away" for nothing. Without the natural curiosity of scientists and explorers, your textbooks would be full of blank pages.

@@DrHarryH that's a fair point I suppose, hey just out of curiosity, I see a lot of cave dive videos and I've never seen any cave walls look so geometric like these, do you have any idea what causes that?

I am going to have to side with Daniel here. It was already known, by previous divers, that the cave continued on. The questions were, to what, and how far? Seems like a lot of money and effort to just poke your head up and say "yup, keeps going". Other than that great video, at least you got that out of it :) 👍👍

The most interesting of all this, only one question - for what purpose do you visit such remote depths? After all, someone is paying you for all this, and most likely for the money of taxpayers, and there are no official results for these expeditions ... After all, you do not show everything that you see in the places you visit!
@DrHarryH
@DrHarryH 2 жыл бұрын
You are incorrect you on all your points. This is entirely self funded, it is a hobby, we are not professionals. All findings, maps, videos and biological samples are reported in detail to the national parks, caving clubs and a variety of scientists. This is what we do for all our expeditions in any country.
