As a 2000s kid, I absolutely loved this game. My uncle gave me a sega genesis and it would be a friday night, lights turned off. I turn on the genesis and the title screens pops up, bright and red. It was scary

When I was a kid, this was my first Castlevania. I deftly remember sucking horribly and being absolutely careless with my jumps. To me, it didn’t matter if it was on an emulator (in my case, the Gens emulator), or on actual hardware, just as long as I got to experience it firsthand, because I never owned an actual Sega Genesis until years later.

No joke, I think it was the best boss theme out of the game. I like the main boss theme as well, but it actually feels less intimidating and nerve wrecking then the mini boss theme. The final boss theme is a joke, though. It almost sounds like it belongs to a different, more silly game. (well, heck, Dracula's very final form in this game is silly instead of intimidating/badass)

The Castlevania I laughed at back in the day when I was a Nintendo fanboy, it didn't look like one in screenshots in EGM. Then my cousin asked me to beat a stage for him in this one, Tower of Pisa (did it in 1 try too), my opinion changed entirely. I bought a Genesis 2-3 years later, Contra Hard Corp, and this freaking game, I was hooked. It felt like Castlevania after all, just on a console I recently had given no chance to. Wish I had gotten his copy, his was clamshell case, mine's cardboard box, it and Hard Corp were Majesco reprints, Toys R Us had them in 1998 for 10 bucks a pop, both games have long exploded in price now though. Come to think of it, I didn't laugh at the Contra screenshots as much, it looked like Contra. Castlevania's I own: NES trilogy PC pack with the trilogy and the first 2 NES Contras CV 4 CV Drac X SNES CV Bloodlines the Gameboy trilogy Circle of the Moon GBA Lament of Innocence Symphony of the Night Castlevania Chronicles Drac X Chronicles PSP Rondo of Blood Wii VC and the spinoff Kid Dracula on FC Yes Psycho Mantis, I do indeed like Castlevania, thanks for telling me all those years ago.
