How the hell they managed to get this kind of quality on the Genesis chip is insane.

A lot of games released for the Mega Drive/Genesis surpass Castlevania Bloodlines on technical terms and sounds even better (clean and quality terms) Examples of maximum quality/use of the YM2612 soundchip: Midnight Resistance, Vapor Trail, Verytex, Batman, Mega Turrican, Thunderforce III e IV, Elemental Master, SOR1 2 3, etc... Bloodlines use FM SNARES and sounds amazing. Now just imagine if they had used a powerful and Clean PCM SNARE like on the Mega Turrican...

@@V.e.r.a. can you please elaborate?
@V.e.r.a.11 ай бұрын
@@r.9158 well, if we go with baroque as you pointed out, it has connections and is influential for modern rock and similar genres. It's not a coincidence that they chose this style of music for an industrial building in Germany. The skeleton soldiers/workers, drum beat and even sound effects in the level support the connection. It's fine if you don't agree but for me, I can see and hear it.
@r.915811 ай бұрын
@@V.e.r.a. You're skipping like 200+ years of music in between the Baroque period and early rock. Worth noting, rock comes from the blues, which comes from more of a soul-type of music African Americans would make with singing to a rhythmic clapping... Which in turn comes from traditional styles of music they heard in Africa. Certainly some rock artists have taken inspiration from the Baroque period - so have metal musicians... And pop... And synth... And pretty much everyone else. So I'm not sure what you heard, but if you were able to relate it to something you liked them that's not particularly surprising. I just think it was a coincidence however. Good for you for discovering a music genre you like though!

I may have not played the game myself but watching playthroughs, seeing the detail in the levels and interpreting them was fun. I like how James and his friends from Angry Video Game Nerd made fun of the skeletons wearing helmets in the stage, but to me it made sense because that stage was a munitions factory and there would be plenty of leftover weapons for those skeletons to take. Also the game took place in World War 1 which was important in the game's plot, so a weapons factory in Germany fit the theme.

The truth is that there is no 'BEST' videogame console. SNES and Genesis had their great games and their shitty games, so this means they both could have good or bad music too. This is an example of many music in Genesis that are great. The quality of the sound will depend on the composer's skill.

@Kirbyluver2 The sound quality is better sure, since there's more room for instrumentation, but what I find best about the Bloodlines version is the context in which it's placed. It's clear that the song was written specifically for the level it appears in here, whereas it's just re-arranged and placed into PoR. To me, it loses some of its depth when it's taken out of its original context.
