Man the localization for this game was really good. Listening to that dialogue between Dracula/Leon they really tried hard to get it right. Both versions are so good. Makes me sad when I see so many games today that butcher their localizations by making changes everywhere, this is so faithful.

It's nice when a player actually appreciates the little details like that. Most western players don't really seem to care about translation errors or what they mean for a narrative and just accept localisations at face value.

Actually, Mathias was not reincarnated as Dracula when he obtained the Crimson Stone (or the 深紅の石 as you know it). He BECAME Dracula when his wife Lisa died in the 1470's, to say just before Castlevania 3 : Dracula's Curse / 悪魔城伝説 (Akumajou Densetsu). Mathias/Dracula reincarnated as Soma Cruz in 2035 after his last battle in 1999.

Actually, Dracula's long lasting war with the Belmont ended in 1999, as told in Aria of Sorrow. But no games depicted it precisely how it happened, though it is known that Julius Belmont, Alucard, Johnathan Morris, Charlotte Aunlin and a priest from the Hakuba shrine were involved and they sealed Mathias' castle inside the eclipse... That same eclipse which would reappear in Aria of Sorrow.

Probably because this was meant to stick in english. However, Castlevania sounds more realistic in japanese. Especially since all Castlevania games are japanese (except Lords of Shadow)

Though I do not excuse nor condone Mathias' actions, I do feel bad and understand him. He just wanted his wife Elisabetha to be safe, yet his wish was denied. Mathias Cronqvist/Dracula Vlad Tepes is just a sad man who's humanity has been ripped apart.

Not really. To describe them simply, the Ebony Stone is weaker than the Crimson Stone. Walter Bernhardt possessed the Ebony Stone while Mathias Cronqvist posseses the Crimson Stone, that's why Mathias/Dracula is stronger.
