One thing that's helped me with Demoman, which is essentially what you've explained in the video, is to keep in mind that there's a genuine reason why Demoman is in the "Defense" category in the class pick menu. While you can be hyper aggressive, it is sometimes really surprising how much further you can get by being more passive/defensive and just a bit more patient, whether its with sticky spamming, pipes, cornering enemies or those pesky scouts.

I'm glad it was helpful! When I started playing comp in 2020 I noticed right away there was very little up to date competitive content on youtube. Sure you can find guides from like 2014 but the meta has changed quite a bit since then. (looking at you shotgun soldier and scout speed update). I wish players who are better than me would take the time to produce competitive content that values the viewers time instead of just uploading a 30 minute rambling session, but unfortunately that's not really a thing.

1k hour demomain here, such a great video. Despite how oversaturated tf2 content is comprehensive class guides for demoman are shockingly lacking. Demo is a complex class and aside from intutive purely mechanical knowledge aspects like play patterns, mindset and strategies are scarcely talked about in the KZbin space. I have only one complaint in that you didn't articulate much about how important the class higherarchy mindset is when playing demoman. While the class higherarchy is less important in casual its still a present factor. Risk assessment is such a large part of demoman and its often worth valuing your own longevity and using restraint when playing demoman, the team itself depends on your ability to lock the game down.

A very unique guide, I was not expecting how prominent the SBL would be. I usually use my grenade launcher over stickies, so to see how much versatility the SBL has over pipes is impressive. Are there any combos that you could pull off with the SBL and Grenade Launcher?
@scarybroccoli Жыл бұрын
Honestly it's crazy since demo basically has two primary weapons... pipes are already crazy good on their own. As I mentioned in the video you can do a "sync" with your grenade and a sticky which is basically a 1 shot combo (if timed right the opponent is unable to surf your damage). You could also juggle someone with a sticky and then pipe them. The biggest one (and the most reliable one) is using stickies to influence the fight and force your opponent to move how you want them to. This is why soldier and scout are pretty good at countering demo - they have a ton of mobility. There might be more I am forgetting or have not "discovered" yet.

@scarybroccoli10 ай бұрын
I (probably) won't make a video about sticky/rocket/pipe jumping. There are plenty out there already and, frankly, I am a mediocre jumper. It depends on what you mean by what is better... pipe and sticky jumping serve two different purposes. Sticky jumping is better for rollouts/general movement, but pipe jumping can be useful to escape a bad situation since you can direct an opponent and jump with the same pipe (instead of having to wait for your sticky arm time to jump away). Hopefully that makes sense.

The loadouts that work best for the Demoman in a competitive environment are also the best for casual gameplay, it just so happens. This probably won't be happening any time soon since I am not currently playing highlander (and don't plan on joining a team in the near future). I could always grab clips from RGL vods, but I find my own gameplay is more genuine to a beginner-intermediate experience than a casted invite match. If I were to make a video for HL demo I would mostly be repeating this video since pretty much all of the advice given here is applicable. The only big difference would be going over positioning, a deeper dive into ubers, and a few other things.
