The Purple Chemical you used, it's not "same as Nickel". It's actually a plating solution based on Cobalt Sulfate CoSo4 so it's a different metal being plated, Cobalt has a bluish tone as opposed to the warm nickel color. The wand is made out of Stainless steel

I got the same kit, I had to use the gauze closest to the metal on the brush contact. I think attaching a more absorbent material would be better.

Hi Amy. Thanks for the reply. I have a different method now thanks to a commentor. I bought a stainless steel anode and now I dip the car, in a small container, and it only take seconds. Less than a minute. Please see comments by Marvin Sevilla on this and all other posts concerning electroplating. Thank you so very much.

yes you should plated nickle first on pot metal before cobalt - tin platng.

Hmmm Seems a bit finicky?! But you seemed pretty convinced it worked ok in the end! Interesting to see, cheers.

Yes, but it worked better than the copper FLASH and copper ACID plug and plate. I ended up using a very nice copper metallic spray paint for the Copper Heads race group.

For Diecast pieces you need to give it a Flash Copper coat, Polish it to a mirror, degrease it and only then the Chrome/Cobalt final coat.

Thank you for the comment. I have Flash and Acid copper. SO, do Flash after what plating? I found it will not work on a plain diecast. I do Zinc then Nickel, and now chrome.
@nicamarvin Жыл бұрын
@@sstdiecastracing2372 Diecast are usually made out of a Zinc Alloy so Acid Copper will not work, you need to clean it very good, degrease it then give it a Flash Copper coating directly to the Zinc/Diecast metal, the Flash Copper needs to be thick enough to hold a polishing, then you can Chrome it with the purple solution. Zinc is too reactive for plain Nickel or Cobalt. Flash Chrome its required. Caswell plating has a Die Cast kit you can use.
@nicamarvin Жыл бұрын
if Flash Copper is not working directly on top of Diecast pieces is because they need to be activated but if you already have the Zinc plating system and it's easier to just zinc it then this is the process: Zinc plate the Diecast, then Flash Copper and then you can go strait to CopyChrome/Cobalt(polishing the copper before to give it a nice even surface) Some people do this to give it a triple chrome look. good 15 minute Flash Copper(in your case Zinc before that) Polish Copper, then Nickel, then CopyChrome/Cobalt.

@@nicamarvin Whoa, information overload. I like your help. WOW, a kit? for Diecast cars? Ooohhhhh. I need to find that as I am new to this but I have had success.

@@nicamarvin Nice videos by the way, why 5 years ago? ANYWAY, I am going to try the zinc then copper Flash then the hrome. I'm excited for the outcome. I will make a video and drop your channel on it for folks to go see your vids. Thanks again.
