It always surprises me to see just how flat a result a grader can get over really rough ground with just one pass. Very capable machines.

Hello, It is great to see this stuff here - babying the ancient cats and rough grading with antiques. Great job. The old tractors will allways run if maintained well. I also began in south Texas a bluetop runner - roller operator as a young kid and ended, traveled and up by retiring from an Operating Engineers Local up north, 40 years later- always a grader man. On machinery exactly like this, filmed here I started. Sixties stuff. I have worked all over . Always, it was fun - if a little risky. The 988 is great. That is a pretty good all around man ,there, he is mech, operator, tireman, but if I were him I would begin to wear hearing- ear protectors. Those old Cat exhausts are straight stack , no muffler, right off the head and murderously loud. I did it and don't hear so well now.

Hucksters, I doubt if very many operators are left who know what blue topping is. I used a Cat 12F to blue top in the early seventies. Nothing like standing up and operating, feeling the grade through your feet. Never felt right, to me, to sit and operate. Ye could feel the beller of the engine all through yer body, when ye was rolling a blade full.

Hey nonickname I believe you are right about blue topping , people do not know what it is anymore. Incredibly accurate though it was. I am retired but still talk to guys still working and GPS now rules the finish grade. Just set it and forget it. Some guys cannot even run grader without it. I used to cut bluetops too and it is still used in Texas- when the grade has to be very,very accurate. Not many can do it anymore.

a few hard yards for an old unit, shouldve trimmed it up a little better with the dozer

Sure good rough grading job hiding a lot of rock but why is he mixing his materials together at the end of a pass?
@DieselPowerTV5 жыл бұрын
He is mixing his materials because it doesn't matter when the job is filling in a hole.

Is that the push cushion D9G in the back ground? Also with all the old machines that you guys store do you have problems with wasps nest getting all in them or is too dry in that part of Texas. Here in south Georgia if you leave something for more than a month it will have wasp nests in every corner during the spring and summer. Hideing ready to make your work day even worse if you reach in the wrong spot.

If you were an operator than you should know the tires grab better then it's in wheel lean position. Sorry didn't want to hurt your feelings.
