Looks like you know exactly what to do. I ran Tower cities grader a few years back and put it in the ditch. I never want to step foot in a grader again lol. Luckily Tim Richmond rescued me with his old Wagner tractor and a yankum rope.

This is the time for an old Oshkosh with the cement block on the back and then keep the plow about 3 inched off the ground so when it hits the snow it pushes the front down and then just let her roll! That’s how they used to get it done in Wisconsin years ago. Graders were great for peeling back ice or lighter snow but lacked the power and momentum of the Oshkosh trucks.

I run a v plow in Manitoba, and the way I do it is to hit once a bit to the left and then to the right. If you don’t widen what you’ve done the plow can act like a giant arrow head and you’ll get stuck. Oh yeah and let off the gas just before you hit the bank so your wheels don’t spin. I keep my wing up at about a 45 degree angle when widening to get the snow moving as far as possible. I don’t feel the need to criticize anyones technique. Do whatever works for you!

The first thing to do is get the road OPEN , then widen going both directions , (old operator here) & on the initial pass stay to the side where the prevailing wind comes from , so that you can , on subsequent passes roll most of the snow to the other side . Looks here like the winds are from operators right . Where I plowed we staked out culverts, rocks, tree stumps etc with a fresh cut stick with the top painted Florescent orange

With the tandem drive machine and a V90 plow I don't like getting stuck in a narrow pass that caves in on me so i widen a little as I go. The end of road was right where I was standing filming so it really wasent that long of a stretch. I did upgrade to a AWD machine this winter..what a differance that makes!

@@garyjung6525 lmao.....almost! I run a 163H a bit during central oregon snow season but we generally don't get the drifting like this and I haven't got to play in the snow with our vplow yet. It's hung on a 14G unfortunately to save abuse on the 2006 163H which does have AWD..........when it decides to work. We do have a 4 way front plow and a 10 or 12 foot wing plow on the 163 though, let's you make a lot of mess real quick haha. Still fun and always somethin to learn pulling levers on a blade, especially with snow you learn to control and move material

Just seems inefficient. I agree with previous comment. It needs a snow thrower attachment of some sort.
@SupermanJH68
@SupermanJH68 4 жыл бұрын
This is inefficient. But, these small municipalities and low population counties cannot afford any more than one or two motor graders to plow heavy snow, and maintain the gravel roads 12 months a year. A separate expenditure for a snow blower would be hundreds of thousands of dollars, not including maintenance or training.

This is ND wind blown snow. It is hard as concrete and you have to back up and take a run at it. You make it as far as you can and you spin out and you back up and do it again. This was my old tandem drive machine so it spun out a lot sooner than my new AWD one would now.
@coolchef09

@@nicholasstaloch6614 yea i know what windblown snow is like, I have cornfields around my property and I get to deal with 2-foot snowdrifts in my driveway alone and I can stand on top of them being a 260lbs man. if you watch some of the commercial-grade snow throwers they use one big truck it might be a better option as much as you hate the idea of changing something

The operator is so inexperienced, he can’t drive forward or back straight. A v-plow for this much hard pack snow is the wrong tool.
@renislevasseur855
@renislevasseur855 4 жыл бұрын
So what is the right tool for the job? You sound like you should be a brain surgeon instead of just a keyboard know it all. It’s probably a small municipality with a small budget. So in fact a grader with a v-plow with a wing for shelving is indeed the right tool for the job Einstein!
@zfilmmaker
@zfilmmaker 4 жыл бұрын
@@renislevasseur855 you know the term but not the meaning. V plow is effective on fresh fallen snow, not snow drifted roads hard compacted like this back road. To much resistance on the plow, which is why the operator keeps having to backup to regain momentum. A straight plow is the better solution to ‘shelf’ the snow in sections which you can’t do with a V. Here’s a good example, mid way through the video you’ll understand what I mean. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3uWmaxoo7WlnaM
@CATMAN42ful
@CATMAN42ful 3 жыл бұрын
zfilmmaker I’ve been running a cat grader with a V plow for 35 years. This guy is a total rookie. I have a 12 M3 that would wipe that out in one pass. Check my video.
@zfilmmaker
@zfilmmaker 3 жыл бұрын
@@CATMAN42ful I never doubted a grader couldn’t do the job, just the guy in the video can't. That said, I could and have ripped through roads just like this in one pass with my Fendt 1050 and a Degelman blade. I’d do it in two passes to widen it... I angle my blade so the snow is pushed to the side. But it really comes down to operator experience. KZbin has many grader videos in snow twice as deep push through in a single pass with running starts. I have no doubt you can do it too.
