Cat 420E backhoe tutorial

This is a video tutorial for the Cat 420E backhoe. I will say that I’m not an expert but this backhoe is really not too hard to operate. If your looking to do some of your own and and have a basic knowledge of heavy equipment then you won’t have any problems doing your own work and saving a buck or two. Not sure what control patter this is but it’s not the standard ISO pattern most of us are likely to encounter. Typically the right control arm controls the top two pistons (stick and bucket) and the left control arm controls the bottom two pistons (Boom and L/R swing.)

No, you don’t have to have a CDL to operate it and there is good money in it for sure but might take some time to get some business up and going.

Its on the same lever as the forward neutral reverse lever you have i believe 1 to 4 gears or 5 dont remember you just twist it to the gear you want to go

I feel like the. Two sticks are reversed. My left stick pushed forward lowers the boo, th right stick pulls and pushes the bucket towards and away

Yes, there is two options on this particular model so you can have it set at your personal preference. Thanks for pointing that out.

You have two different type of controls- 1.) SAE. 2.) ISO. Some machines will offer you both.

@@hugostiglitz8465 around here we call it Cat (SAE) or John Deere (ISO). Funny that most operators learn and prefer one or the other and have a hard time switching. Non-operators like me, with a few minutes practice, can use either but of course I'm much slower. The SAE seems more intuitive to me. We have machines that switch electronically, some switch with a manual operated valve and some switch with quick disconnect hoses. Young bucks can switch pretty easily between patterns but the older guys use the joy sticks like they are extensions of their arms and it has become reflex like movement. And, of course, we have applicants that swear they can operate equipment and find out all they can do is make it move forward and reverse. Others just don't have the coordination to swing and uncurl or pull and curl.
