In case anyone is wondering, soap’s alkaline properties tangle the wool together so they become matted, this happens because it opens the microscopic hair scales. Felting is the process of matting wool into a solid form and it is the oldest form of textile making in the world.

I was thinking that same thing... watching this made my hands and arms ache... No way could I do this. Maybe 20 years ago... but even that is stretching it because I have lupus with rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.. so even in my late 20s and into my 30s I was having problems with all of that... I was able to make jewelry and crochet into my 30s but then my arms and neck and other things got so bad that I had to give it up. So no way could I do this lol... It looks rough even for someone who doesn't have those types of problems. and at least with this one... you know its great quality!!!

You made it look easy to just lay down some wool and POOF! Cat cave! :D This isn't just technique. It's knowing fiber, the soap, the water temperature, technique and physical labour. That was my thought exactly, and that was just in seeing how much wool was used! I spin and I thought, "Well that'll cost a fortune to make!" Then I saw how much work goes into it and thought, "I hope she CHARGES a fortune for those!"
@teresa28455 жыл бұрын
@@kimwildner9431 yes, but she needs to make sure that people know that her stuff is all made by hand... using real wool. Too many people get away with cheating... because of the way they word it. People no longer trust in the label. Its a shame because everyone loses out except for the people who are scamming... People are buying, thinking they are getting quality and saving a little money. People who are selling quality stuff aren't selling because the scammers sell for a little bit cheaper and their junk is made by machine, and not good all wool

@Miyu Miyu Privileges? It's now a privilege to be of a gender? FYI, as the very supportive relative of a nonbinary person, I feel compelled to add that the RIGHT way to to move the world towards greater acceptance is not to hyperfocus on gender terms and attack people who use them. Consider the fact that YOU have, and no doubt fiercely protect, the right to choose your own vocabulary and embrace your own identity. So respect it in others. One thing that will never change is that you need to give respect to receive respect and you do nothing but disservice to yourself and others when you fail to do so. Maybe try this response instead: "Yes, great work and might I add thank you for providing this free tutorial".

miaskittens D, Please post back after your experiment! And I'm thinking wrapping a few dry layers at a time, then wetting on the form would be so much easier to handle. Also, how are you gonna get the form out of the cave??? Maybe start with a beachball, inflated, then deflated for removal? Would you use the roving, or yarn? Roving is almost a requirement to get the fibers to lock together. Then the soaping step... Whoever said "Just buy one from Kivikis" may have the right idea. She really doesnt charge that much. I just thought of something: She's using reverse psychology on us, showing how much work it is, to make us talk ourselves into buying a finished one!! This may have worked, lol.

Thank you the video! I know this is a few years old, but I just found it. I see lots of comments on how cats prefer boxes or baskets. I think the video is more about the process that goes into the making of something like this. I have heard about felting but had never seen the actual process of it. Thanks again!

This is a gift of love ❤️. Kitty kat must be loved by you. It is a lot of steps to make this cat cave, but it is so nice. I do not have a cat, maybe one day I shall.😊🤗

How to clean it inside? It will be dirty in couple of days, and it impossible to wash.

very cool! I had no idea how this was done. The music really captured the drama of the process.

Your experience reinforces my idea to just crochet a cat cave, rather than go to all the trouble of felting one!
