More than 150 cats with various ailments were discovered at a home in Powell, Wyoming. The owner was served a seizure warrant, and the HSUS, along with local authorities rescued these animals from a hoarding situation.

I adopted one of these cats in Oct 2010. He's the sweetest fella. He's in the clip, about 17 seconds in, sitting in the window. It's sad to think about where he came from. He has permanent respiratory problems and he's a bit beat up, but what a sweetheart. I hope they all found forever loving homes.

Jack Shields same here i eat meat but i feel guilty when i do.....i have cut back on it lately and i feel meat is ok in smaller amounts and in a humane way we usually get our meat from a friend of the family ( the daughter is my best friend) and we know they had a full healthy life like the one bull we ate only because he as starting to get very aggressive and unsafe.... (trust me he had plenty of kids lol) and the chicken were pretty much free roaming they cage was outdoors and very large they couldnt roam because the dogs would have attacked them and we mainly eat a lot of venison which lasts us a long time so i dont feel so bad eating that because i know they grew up happy and healthy.

Hi Karla Willis, Someone left their cat behind. She was a beautiful Tabby. I named her Scampy because she used to go around the neighborhood for handouts but I was the only one who fed her! When winter came, I tried to invite her inside, even though my own cat had hissed at her at the window all spring, summer and fall. She wouldn't come even though it was very cold outside. Scampy used to let me hold her so one day I tried to put her into a crate and get her to a shelter where she could be adopted, she wanted no part of it. I have since had to move from the area and neighbors told me that Scampy was waiting for me on my old front door steps. I hope someone else realized what a good soul she is and was able to care for her on her terms. That happened over two years ago and I still miss her!! I still have my cat who does not want to share her home. What can you do but accept their needs and wishes. PS: I informed the local shelter before I left, but as usual, they don't come unless there is a "problem" IE: You have to bring the animal to them.

Thanks so much for your reply!! I am so very far from the area and have no contacts so I do not even know if she is alive. I can only hope to see her on the Rainbow Bridge. Don't worry for her, I am positive she found another loving soul. There is no way she would let someone hurt her! She is too smart, but what worries me is her age, I'm old and so is she, that is way I wish I could have taken her with me.

Good, because I saw a video where they removed 250 cats from a hoarding situation, only to euthanize them all! That's just shitty and if you don't have the resources to follow through, find someone who does, or split it up among others. Because pulling them out just to euthanize them is just as fucking horrible as leaving them in the first place.

+Tracy Buening Most hoarders think they are helping them. Hoarding at this level is a true mental disorder and help should be given to the human as well.
@33deadmom8 жыл бұрын
Total agreement that this is a mental health issue, a form of OCD, anxiety and depression. The difference in animal hoarding is the animals can't consent to live that way. The person may profess deep affection and love for their pets. The conditions would refute this in EVERY way. It's a kin to torture to be forced to live in conditions like this, the conditions of the environment it's self was killing them. That is not love, and mental illness can't excuse it. Animal hoarders almost always reoffend, it's a stubborn disorder, and it always ends badly for everyone. I think this is one of those things that a real clear message has to be sent to offenders really for their own good and the safety of another living beings.
@33deadmom8 жыл бұрын
And lots of mental health services used.

+Tracy Buening In this case, it seems almost understandable. These cats are well fed, and there doesn't seem to be any issues with the owner complying with the removal. The real problem I can see from this is most likely someone having the best intentions, but not able to keep up with the medical costs. Spaying a neutering. This probably started with a small handful taken in, then boom.. the breeding began. The humans should have done something sooner.

One of my cats I found on a side of a highway it was a really skinny and small Russian blue kitten so I pulled over and tried to get but it started running down to this drive through for a food place so we went down to there and the cat ran into a persons car so we got it out and at first it was very aggressive but as it got more comfortable it wasn't like when I first got her. She had burnt her paws a little but recovered very fast. And after we had Her at my house for a little we got her checked up at the vet and named her Hidie. I love her so much!!

I believe people with animal hording issues need to helped. It is a compulsion. Animals are expensive. I have one cat and he eats a lot. 150 cats is a lot. The owner had a large yard which would have been better for the cats, if a larger separate building was constructed. I hope all the cats get sprayed and neutered. I hope both the cats and the former owner get better.

Like the guy in the video said, it all starts out with good intentions but soon gets out of control. If you take in say, 4 cats as pets and 2 of them aren't fixed, they will mate and multiply like crazy...
@albertschepis10 жыл бұрын
OMG... this is so heartbreaking. One thing of note though, one has to admit that even under the most unlivable conditions, cats do manage to live harmoniously and be sociable. They are better off physically now but they have all lost the cat friends and loved ones they've been living with. Hopefully most of them will survive and be adopted into a new loving family.
@Elly398110 жыл бұрын
I'm sure these animal hoarders did have good intention by taking in homeless strays but the fail to realize that they aren't doing the animals any favors if they cannot provide them with adequate food, clean water, and medical care. I have two cats and cannot take in any more because that is all I can provide well for. My cats are healthy, clean, and happy. If I had more money and a bigger house, I would be happy to take in more cats or dogs.

sad thing is, the humane society in my city end up "putting down" a lot of cats that are captured or taken from hoarders because of not enough funds to keep them alive waiting to be fostered or adopted.
@lunathewingedcat88669 жыл бұрын
In my city, they only put down cats if they are in a lot of pain and are incurable, or if they are too vicious and have been there for years and never get adopted. At least the cats get a quick and painless death instead of staying in the shelter their whole life.

Hoarding is not about numbers. It’s defined by the condition of the animals and the condition of the place they are kept in. I just watched a video of a guy in Long Island that has 300 cats on his property. He has a very clean home with tons of perches and space for them to roam indoors and outdoors while at the same time they can’t get out of his property. They are all happy, healthy, well fed, social, and fixed. That is the difference.

this video made me want to cry those poor kitties. people start out with the best intentions but those cats deserve a loving home and when theres that many in one place its hard to care for each one individually. the cat at the end was just loving that lady and this video made me so sad i had to pick up my cat and give her some love

If I had the money, time and proper sized big house (unground shelter-hobbit type, because they are big and cheap yet tuff), then I would want to resue as many cats as I could if they could all live in a comfortable, warm, healthy and spaceous house that could still allow my friends, family, wife and myself to live in our own spaces. Also, I would need to beable to afford each of the cat's vet bills and to also figure out at what point is there to many to keep track of, like if one got sick, I would need to beable to know and observe each cat to allow me to properly take care of them. My question is though is, how many is to many? From what I currently think is, depending on how you answer this, if you can provide all that is required from above and some more, then are you good to go? Is 2-5 good? Are people with 24 bad or are people with even 6 okay? Would it be okay for me to have 12-20 if I am even more responsible and loving than a shelter would be? Or, could I never equal that of somone who has 5 cats because I would be too over extended? Any thoughts? I just love helping animals and am doing work for my humane society, but an just tired of seeing animals die. :(

20 is the legal limit. But 2-5 is fine as long as they have proper conditions

You sound like one of those hoarders. That's how it always starts, rescuing as many cats as you find and bringing them home. Then reality kicks in and you realize you can't help all of them on your own.

I love cats! Seeing this video has shown me that some will start out responsible and loving, but over time, their love turns into obsession and carelessness. This person probably only had a handful of cats. But by not taking care of them and letting them breed recklessly has lead to this torturous life-style. It's heartbreaking. People have to be responsible enough to be reasonable and to not let their fascination turn into a deadly, inhumane case like this.

You should foster but only like 2-5

I strongly dislike people that harm animals when I'm old enough I want to be. Part of the humane society please help these animals :(

Is it too rash for me to say I want to rescue animals? I feel like it is but I'm overwhelmed with wanting to help these good people and the jobs they do! Videos like this break my heart while mending it.

Oml I love the big muscly guy with the tatoos and how he carries puppies and kittens when really you would think he’s a big tough biker. He’s such a gentle giant

I was watching this with my cat and half way through the video I looked at him and he had his paws over his eyes when I pulled his paws away from his face he had the saddest expression I have ever seen it’s like he understood what they were going through even though he has been with me since he was born ( literally I watched his mom give birth to him ) so I pause the video and hugged him and explained to him they were going to good homes and they will be much better right now he is in the living room playing with our new kittens we rescued a few weeks ago
