My biggest gripe with the more recent books is when Finpaw has to have his tail chomped off and he and everyone else is lamenting about how hard it will be for him to relearn climbing, balance, etc. If only there was some clan cat who Finpaw could talk to who had experienced such trauma too! ..... I'm genuinely convinced the writers didn't know that Berrynose had the exact same plot used on him. I'm also genuinely convinced they had no idea Berrynose had a stump tail at all, as it is never mentioned again after arch....3? I don't remember which arch. That's not important. It's just.....why not have Finpaw train under Berrynose upon joining Thunderclan? It would have been the perfect and obvious matchup.

pyro ok Hmm, now I ought to re-read The Sight. That does make sense from Brightheart’s point of view though, she essentially had to reteach herself everything after her accident since she had already learned it all once but couldn’t use those techniques while blind on one side. Jayfeather was starting from scratch, and didn’t have the knowledge base to be able to properly learn her own adaptations of the standard moves. That honestly explains a lot about why that mentorship didn’t work.

How does no one realize the Mintkit and Marigold kit inconsistency was done on purpose??? Yellowfang thinks that maybe she smells fox. No one else smells it, and there are no other signs of a fox. This is clearly her trying to rationalize this in her grief. They are her siblings after all. That's why it's such a shock when Yellowfang finds out Brokenstar was the one who killed the kits. I can't believe that was so confusing for people.

Oh I guarantee Ashfur is getting redeemed. The cover and blurb for book 5 heavily imply that Squilf and Ashfur are going to project to the Dark Forest together to go after whoever Ashfur’s “employers” are. As much as I’d love to see Ashfur remain straight evil for the whole arc, he’s almost certainly getting redeemed. At least he’ll probably get a good arc out of it this time, so that’s an improvement over Power of Three Ashfur.

Little Kitten I mean, here’s hoping it’s more of a “teaming up for the greater good” thing after they reveal whoever is actually behind this whole scheme (since it’s probably not Ashfur). Obviously, at a bare minimum he would have to agree to try and help get Bramblestar’s spirit back into his body (which may or may not be why they’re traveling to the Dark Forest), and preferably Ashfur should receive some kind of punishment for his actions (that may or may not tie into his redemption), such as his ghost getting killed or otherwise fading or maybe just Ashfur having to agree to trap himself in the Dark Forest or something. Really, it all depends on how much of a jerk Ashfur is over the next two books and/or how bad the mastermind is in comparison to him (again, assuming that Ashfur is working for someone, if he’s the one planning all of this and remains straight evil that would be amazing, but it really doesn’t look like they’re going that route).

I *think* trans Rowanclaw was intentional, since they had several chances to fix that in modern TNP-era material and they left it as is. They probably will never admit it though, since the publishers wouldn’t even allow them to say Ravenpaw/Barley and Tallstar/Jake were mates even though it’s *heavily* implied (and they confirmed outside the books that that was always the intention). That being said, most of the other gender swaps were 100% errors, since they mostly got changed back later on.

@@Nathan-kk6lb Sadly I don't think they intended to have a trans character. On the other LGBT+ characters the authors have come out and said flat out that was the case. Rowanclaw's gender appears to only have changed so he could be Tawnypelt's mate. While the others were a result of the authors not exactly reading the books. For instance Mosskit starts out as a tom in TPB but doesn't become a molly until Bluestar's prophecy. Then Mosskit continues to change from molly to tom in each book. Other characters are one offs whose reappearances feature their genders being swapped. Rushtooth and Brick are such characters. While I'd love their to be a trans or gender fluid character I'm waiting for them to not be an authors mistake. Though I still love trans headcannons!

Plot Twist:) Breezepelt's character has changed due to being possessed. Breezepelt, at some point after the Great Battle, is somehow badly injured, leaving him in a near-death scenario. During this time, a spirit pocesses him. This spirit is probably a young warrior, apprentice, or exile longing to live the life they never had/could've had, so they take Breezepelt's. I'd imagine Breezepelt would either be infuriated or depressed by seeing how his Clanmates and everyone around him adores this new Breezepelt, but idk how this idea would end/play out. Note:) This idea was just intriguing to me, especially seeing how it happened to Bramblestar and I thought it could explain why Breezepelt seems to change so quickly.

Another point to the Onestar thing it was always very clear that the reason he changed so much was to prove that he was a capable leader, and didn't need to rely on ThunderClan or ANY Clan for help. Onestar's character is all over the place. Onewhisker is totally different from Onestar, and I know characters can go through great changes, but he feels... completely unnecessary? Like Onewhisker is someone hard-working and willing to help his Clan. He also doesn't mind too much to be friendly with other Clan cats. A good reason and candidate for Tallstar to pick. However, ever since he became leader, it just... changed. And yeah the whole kittypet thing kind of threw me off. It's kind of the thing rat-Onestar would do, but not Onewhisker. but maybe he's been like this all along.

Fireheart goes to visit her and persuades her to eat her medicine so that “she can become a strong warrior for her clan.” But in the next book she is just gone. I think her name was Mistlekit

I'm actually kind of surprised you didn't bring up the "retcon" that in the new prophecy Squirrelflight's Mentor is listed as Dustpelt but later on in the series Squirrelflight herself says that Brambleclaw was her Mentor in a conversation with him. When Brambleclaw was said to not have mentored when he became deputy, which at the time was a big deal in the clan, until Berrykit turned 6 moons.

Y'know, it's lowkey kinda pathetic that there are so many retcons/continuity errors that we can actually have this whole discussion. These people are being PAID to slap these books together, yet somehow fans (including literal children) are able to keep better track of the lore just because they actually vaguely care. Hell, the writers don't even have to make their own series bible because we have an entire fan-made encyclopedia with more information than they could ever hope for. Tigerstar didn't even say Redtail killed Oakheart, though. He said Oakheart killed Redtail, and then Tigerstar killed Oakheart "while he was still gloating over his victory." Both Ravenpaw and Firepaw misinterpreted that Redtail killed Oakheart because they didn't see the rocks fall on Oakheart. All Ravenpaw knows is that Redtail screamed "Oakheart is dead" while covered in blood. I still agree that they did not research enough, if at all. I know this shit from memory, the least they could have done is just read more than two passages in a book.

True, but Fireheart stated that Bluestar didn’t believe him when he warned her about Tigerclaw because she didn’t believe Redtail would murder anyone. In fact there’s a whole scene where Riverclan confirms that Oakheart died under the rocks. In Fire and Ice, or Forest of Secrets. Redtail’s Debt was, unfortunately, very messy.

I actually caught a retcon in the books just the other day, or at least a mistake. In Power of Three: The Sight, there is a bout of greencough going through Thunderclan camp, and this is when Jayfeather saves Poppypaw from dying of the illness. However, as the clan is discussing hunting patrols, Millie who had recently joined the clan, told Firestar that she could go out on hunting patrols without risk of greencough, because when she was a kittypet she was taken the the cutter (vet) and no longer gets sick. However, later on in the series (I don’t remember the specific book don’t come for me) a very severe outbreak of greencough breaks out in Thunderclan, causing them to quarantine the sick cats in the abandoned twoleg nest to prevent further spread. And very notably it is mentioned that Millie is one of the sickest cats in the bunch. It seems to me that the authors completely forgot about Millie’s previous “immunity” to illnesses, and just wanted to create more drama involving Graystripe almost losing another mate. Feel free to tell me if I’m wrong!

We can assume the thing keeping Millie well is a vaccine like how pets get rabies and heart worm shots, which don’t last forever. And if Millie had been vaccinated all her life that also gives some reason for why the second couch outbreak hits her harder, she doesn’t have a developed immune system after it not being used for years, (or it wasn’t used to the full capacity at least)

Perhaps Sandstorm and Graystripe are secretly former Kittypets, hence why no one ever mentions their parents? That would make some implications as to perhaps why both Sandstorm and Graystripe bonded well with Firestar, as they could secretly relate to his kittypet status. In Bluestar's super edition, there's a time jump to when suddenly she is receiving the "Fire alone will save our clan" prophecy from Spottedleaf after having lost many clanmates in battle and from sickness. Perhaps at this moment, she had already recruited Sandpaw and Graypaw? We never witness (at least from Bluestar's POV) the birth of Sandpaw and Graypaw, so it could be possible she recruited them (Or someone dropped them off)? After doing so, perhaps decided to go at it one more time to go and literally look for a "fire colored cat" to fulfill the prophecy lol? This would also further make us empathize more with how recruiting Rusty angers Tigerclaw, Longtail, the elders, etc as they already had to previously witness the integration of former kittypets Sandpaw and Graypaw from the previous moons. This theory of course, falls apart when we realize that the anger toward "kittypetness" was strictly directed specifically toward Firestar, and never to Sandstorm or Graystripe. Furthermore, Graystripe specifically states his initial disdain toward the kittypet lifestyle when he is taken in for adoption (proving his lack of kittypet experience), and only starts to become appreciative of the lifestyle after he meets Mille. ___ In the quest to find Sandstorm and Graystripe's parents, we can deduce that Whitestorm is likely not Sandstorm's father, since he was her mentor (And the clans don't prefer parents mentoring their own kits). Similarly, Lionheart is likely not Graystripe's father as he was his mentor. Ultimately however, we may never find out their parents as perhaps the writers didn't imagine to go into this much detail into the character's family trees when they started writing this lol. Just imagine, all the implications if Redtail and Brindleface were truly Sandstorm's parents... Ashfur being Squirrelflight's uncle (Yuck). Sandstorm being so cold-hearted as to not in the slightest, show any grief when they died. etc etc.

The one question I have that the series seems to have glossed over was Silverflame. In Tallstar's Revenge, Tallpaw notices the ShadowClan warriors exchange knowing and worried glances making Tallpaw wonder if there was something more to the "good news" of Silverflame expecting Yellowfang's mother.

@@juniperz58 Cats age pretty quickly so it's safe to assume Speckletail and OneEye having an age gap probably isn't too massive. Maybe 2 or 3 years. Cats can remain pretty fertile a long while as well, so Snowkit being the last born [and especially as a single kit with health issues like his deafness] would still make sense. Cats dont suffer menopause like humans do. Their litters will become smaller but they don't stop being able to get pregnant. Heres something from an article I read: "Cats do not undergo menopause, and a cat that has not been spayed will continue to be fertile and produce kittens throughout her life. Likewise, she will continue to have estrous cycles - known as going into heat - for her entire life. Most cats are capable of becoming mothers around the age of 6 months. They go into heat twice a year, in spring and summer. The estrous cycle is tied to the production of melatonin, which slows when the days are longer and the nights shorter. Some fertile indoor cats may go into heat every month, because they are exposed to an artificial day-night cycle. As the cat ages, her litters may become smaller, but she remains fertile. Idk One eye that’s an elder while speckletail is a queen, and the same story with goldenflower and frostfur (frostfur became an elder while goldenflower stayed a queen, and she and Goldenflower has a huge space gap as well) And frostfur was actually more of a warrior than a queen, while goldenflower is like a “full-time” queen. Why I like Breezepelt: Honestly, it’s mostly because I related to him. I was angry, so, so angry about my life and I felt overlooked. I understood how Breeze felt, and in Crowfeather’s Trial when he became better, it gave me hope that things could change for me too. I also honestly just love characters that should be villains, but manage to pull themselves out of whatever struggle they are in and get better. Was it poorly written? Yes. Do I wish Breeze got a better redemption arc? Yes. However, i will always fondly remember Breezepelt for making me feel like things could change for me, and I will always love him for that.

Honestly, with the thing of cats having multiple mates (at least with background characters) is somewhat cannon. There was some dialogue in a book where two she-cats say something about being worried their mate is out fighting (and yes, they have the same mate. Both have litters around the same time. Thanks Shadowclan) But loyalty when it comes to romance in the series is only good for main characters, apparently lol. Actually, when it comes to family trees, where after the kits become apprentices, the mother almost never cares for them anymore, and the fathers almost never cared (of course in both cases, there are a few parents who do really care. Sometimes.) I find it weird that Firestar's bloodline is most important in the clan. Like, the cat's themselves actually care about Firestar's kids, and their kid's kids, and their kid's grandkids, ect. Like, it really makes no sense when, aside from a few parent/kit relationships, almost none of the relationships are important after 6 moons. But eh. It's whatever. The books are still pretty cool. I should really catch up on them though lol

One of the biggest ‘retcons’ for me is when Ivypaw has to do that river training with Darkstripe in the dark forest and the whole thing is that Hollowpaw( remember HOLLOWPAW) helps her. And then when Ivypool becomes a full dark forest warrior, she is told to mentor the new apprentice, and this is again Hollowpaw, even when we had the whole river thing. Hollowpaw is described to be scared and nervous. And then later on in the series, it mentions that ivypool sees her old apprentice, Furzepaw, is a lot more confident in the dark forest, which makes no sense as 1. Her apprentice was Hollowpaw and 2. Furzepaw was seen in the dark forest before the whole apprentice this?
