So many people saying VG was “grossly mishandled.” VG was one of those rare beautiful games that didn’t require any pay to play aspects. Just sign up and prepare to sell your soul. I grinded for years, all the way from 3v3 to the day I logged into a temp account(RIP). I slowly unlocked almost every character and got some sick skins but their where plenty more I had my eye on. IMO they made some good changes to skins and talents way back when to draw in some money but apparently it was too little too late. It’s sad to see VG in this state but it’s honestly the only mobile game I’ve ever spent money on, and rightfully so. Don’t blame the devs for making a game we all loved, remember the 6 damn years we all got to enjoy it.

This honestly looks so damn cool. I look forward to seeings how this game plays and feels, and what kind of wild stuff happens in a 10v10 or 20v20 battle. And the fact that they're building it with cross-platform play and accessibility in mind, and the "drop-in drop-out" matching style will make this game something anyone can invite anyone else to play with them. I'd even say to my non-gamer friends "bored? Download this real quick and we'll play together." Though, I do wonder how they'll handle keeping teams fair with equal numbers of players on each side. And how I'd drop in to play with my friend if their team already has the full 10 or 20 players P: Also feels good to know that they're interested in revisiting the Vainglory universe at some point, and their reasoning for making a separate universe for this game makes sense. And kudos to them for making Vainglory Community Edition so people who love the game and want to play it will be able to!

Speaking as a very old VG player. They stopped heavily investing in competitive many years ago, because it wasn't working. The first goal should be to grow the casual playerbase - without that, a "serious" competitive scene is hard to maintain. With VG they ended up with a relatively serious competitive scene - and a small, mostly uninterested playerbase. This game is clearly much more casually oriented, and that's much better for growing the playerbase - and making crossplatform play more balanced. Doesn't mean they can't eventually give this game a serious competitive scene, but last time they put the cart before the horse.

Another OG vainglory player chiming in here. VG was featured in Apple's Keynote Presentation, then again in an Apple ad featuring Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon. Then again a couple years later in another iPhone ad with a huge cinematic budget. These ads had an enormous reach. Very few mobile games could have rivaled that kind of exposure. None of it worked because at the end of the day VG only appealed to a VERY small demographic - basically hardcore gamers who liked MOBA's but didn't have a PC to play them on. It doesn't matter how many ads you shove down someone's throat if it's not the type of game they enjoy. They also spent a ton on the e-sports league, recruiting pretty much every big e-team at the time. Again it didn't work because you have to have a huge casual player base before the economies of scale are big enough for an e-league to be run on ad revenue alone (instead of SEMC footing it as a huge marketing expense). So if they saw a minimal increase in the userbase after the Apple's ads ans the e-sports why would they continue to dump money into it and go out of business. They had a lot of people downloading the game but never playing it because it was too hardcore for the average mobile gamer (which is why they moved to PC but there was already too much competition). So finally, they actually ARE putting together everything they learned from VG together with Catalyst Black. They are making a much more accessible game that appeals to a wider audience. It doesn't really look like my type of game but this game actually has a chance at becoming much bigger and helping them fund passion projects like VG.

Skins were too easy to obtain in VG so it negatively impacted sales for an already small player base. I started playing a few months before 5v5 launched and they changed the way skin collection worked where everyone got a bunch of blueprints and essence during transition. I barely spend $5 on this game and had at least one skin for every hero by less than a year. The player base was already small and premiums were very generously given out, where no profits were made.

I have a little idea for your new game. Because I used to love RPGs, so I suggested. Mission advice: 1. World Boss: which is held once a week - once a month, Boss is different every week. 2. The main mission: to increase XP and run the story. 3. Side mission: carrying out the duties of the NPC. 4. Another map: Enter another world portal, dungeon, etc. 5. Battle pass: to get limited skin or limited items 6. Gacha: using real money or special items in the game, to get Epic or Legendary items. 7. Versus: 5vs5, 10vs10, 20vs20. 8. Infection mode: the more players that are infected the more points you get. Note: a).Infection must have a time limit to return to normal, or use certain items. b).an infected player will become a monster other suggestions: 1. Modify the skin as desired, unlimited creativity. 2. Character modification. 3. Weapon modification, change color etc. 4. Vehicle, Vehicle modification. 5. Pets. 6. Grafity, to mark or show off to other players. Etc.

I mean, back at the time when nobody's able to play Vainglory with their device, Vainglory gives the best experience for mobile MOBA. Now, when everyone has device to play Vainglory, you guys leave it dying. Why don't you guys just make a full price game with great gameplay, graphics, and story instead of free-to-play... Honestly I just want Vainglory back at its prime. Though with the Moba market completely saturated with low quality copy cats, I understand it is difficult to survive financially with Vainglory. I am not into shooter games and will most likely not invest time into this game. Though I want to wish the SEMC team success and best of luck. Anyways, it was a fun ride. Goodbye Skaarf, Lyra, Phinn and all on the Halcyon Fold.

For those who are already salty about the Catalyst Black - The game is in pre-alpha. So do not judge something before testing it yourself. Did they take a few wrong steps with Vainglory? Maybe (Refer Excoundrel’s video for details). But I believe that they have learned what they had to from it. These are the same guys who created the beautiful game and experience we call Vainglory. They are certainly capable of making something extraordinary again.
