Been using riv-nuts for 30-some years ... great stuff where a nut cannot be reached. TIP: When drilling steel, run your drill as slow as possible. HSS (High Speed Steel) drill bits work best if run at around 150 inches per minute (that's slow) ... they'll run cooler and stay sharp longer. I installed a 1/4" thick Talon's Garage cat-shield under my 2022 F250 with the 7.3L gas engine (2 cats). Cost? Some may argue not to bother with a shield because insurance will cover replacements. I'm not worried about that as I'm more concerned with the inconvenience of going to all the trouble of getting 'em replaced should they be stolen. Over heat? Cats work better when hot ... they function by using the exhaust gases to make the internals glow red hot to burn up unburnt fuel particles.

Here is a tip for you Tundra owners who have the TRD skid plate and need to mount the security shield underneath it. Do Not install the side shields first, install them AFTER you have the main shield install 100%. If you install the side shields first, you will not have access to the front two top nuts.

Well I wish this would work for my Tundra but I got a 6" lift and it won't work. I have to find some custom cat protection for mine.

When putting on the catalytic converter protection, is the screw to drain the engine oil covered?

A shop in Albany Ca welds #60 rebar over the cats. I don't park my truck in Oakland so I don't need it.....But if I did that would be the way to go.

I just had my cats stolen off my 18 tundra. 6-7k to fix from the dealership with a several month long wait. Buy the plate.

I feel your pain. We got the cats stolen off of our 2020 Sequoia last Sept. Took a little over 5 months to get the replacements and about $6k. I have cat shields on both vehicles I own now. Sure wish I had them on last year.

Sorry to hear this man.. mine were stolen a few weeks ago… yes it is pricey… I’m installing a tamper mace dispenser to the underbelly of my truck along with the shield.

No, you can still change the oil with it installed. It looks like you have to remove it though for access to the transmission fluid plug.

If a trans fluid service or iffy O2 sensors, vacuum/breather line fix is needed, definitely take care of before installing, even if it seems early since last. I'm doing transfer case fluid as well before I add mine.

My cat got stolen two weeks ago on the Prius. After getting the repairs done I had the cat shield installed by the muffler shop. I think anything that would make it more difficult to steal would help. The cat thieves are pretty brainless.

Yes, I think they'd move on to an easier target. I heard you can even put silicone or something in the bolt heads for extra security given you'd have to dig it out before the tool head will fit in there to be able to remove the bolt. It would cause thieves to spend a lot more time trying to get the plate off and just wouldn't be worth the effort.

@@unidentifiedrandomvideos5616 Also you can put some JB weld on the end of the bolt where the pipe connects to the exhaust manifold so that a socket can't fit. The thieves unually unbolt the two spring bolts to the manifold.

They are trained under certain second I think if they didn’t get done by like 90sec move on to their next challenge. That’s how they’re making their income.

This is dumb if they steal your cats they doing you a favor. If those cat stealer comes around he won’t find one but might find the barrel end of a firearm.
