You don't see much of the old edition in this video. To see a comparison of old Settlers of the Stone Age and new Catan: Dawn of Humankind, here's a side-by-slide comparison, with commentary: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iH2xd6xjjqp9rsk

Nice video. I have a copy of the original edition that I still haven’t played. I really should give it a try

I am lukewarm on it, I like it fine but it's hard to justify owning it. If you already have it, though, no reason not to try it! If you can get a summary of the changes in the new edition, it'll help speed the game up. (If you need said summary, let me know.)

Your side-by-slide was a good overview of the differences :)

Hmm, in the original a roll of "7" moved only the Neandertal, never the carnivore. Also the Neandertal *was* allowed in Africa. Wonder what prompted the changes.

Not sure. Unlike some of the other changes which speed the game up, this seems more like a lateral change. I like being able to move either figure, a little more intuitive, but I also like moving the Neanderthal into Africa, to push people out a little faster. Otherwise, rolling a 7 early in the game doesn't do much at all.

I need to try this. Gamery Catan sounds cool to me. Trading was my least favorite part of the game.

I think in some ways it's better for modern gamers than vanilla Catan. Its only real knock is the lack of variability from game to game.

This was the game that got me into the hobby. Not base Catan, the original copy of stone age Catan. We also have another Benjamin Teuber game, Tumult Royal, which we like.

I want to try Tumult Royale. Checked BGG, and 132 are trading it away and only 11 want it in trade (including me). Surely a copy will come my way someday!
