100% agree with Green to block your brick early on. You were clearly trying to plow for that wood port and that is very important to them. I would have done the same as it seemed like you were clearly being sneaky. No need to complain in the chat about his choice to block you if that's how you are going to play.
@Kal-Reegar Жыл бұрын
Not to mention, in an objective sense if he did manage to get the wood port the game gets very difficult for the rest of the table. It lets you fight for dev cards, meaning you have all win conditions within grasp. It was the right move from green.

Thanks! It’s easy to get discouraged or feel helpless during tough games. Over the years, I’ve had to hone my patience and emotional control in those situation - Certainly not perfect and that’s okay! Better to improve what you can control and not worry about what you can’t. Stay great and appreciate you here - DD

Only problem is that the season is about to reset. Might have to restart my placement matches in a week or so. I believe being transparent and honest in posting all the games is important for players trying to learn.

Very nice channel, but do you really think the solo 9 block is unfair? I mean you obviously were raceing green :D and from greens persepctive getting plowed there is just so bad. Plus you lied and this is not nice at all.
@dandydrew Жыл бұрын
Nothing here is unfair! I’m getting a few comments on that play and I understand why. I love hearing different perspectives like what has been shared. I would have only taken the port if I had the exact combination in hand, as opposed to traditional racing would be to drop the road and see who gets it first. At first, I wasn’t sure if I could beat green to the wood port if he goes for it right away… then I saw a window and decided to change my plans… didn’t work, obviously. Every move has pros and cons, and the obvious con with solo blocking me is you give black faster OWS development, which is in direct competition with green’s win condition. So green took a risk by unblocking black imo, but he did get the port in the end. If I could go back and do it again, I would have pointed the road to the 5 4 11 and get the 9 10, and not deal with any shenanigans with green. You live and you learn. Appreciate the comment and see you around - DD

Nice video, but I think you are being a bit dishonest when you say it is weird to solo block you for green. It would be one thing to lie to green, but saying it in the commentary just doesn't make a lot of sense as obviously, you were looking to race to the wood port since you are on a lot of wood and you were not committing roads to the 9-10. it is the correct play, but there is no reason to make it seem like green misplayed to your audience when he would have lost a major advantage if you got road settle before he did.
@ryanmcneil5772 Жыл бұрын
yeah was clearly good blocks by green lol
@goonjanmall Жыл бұрын
Why did you not drop the road early ~6 min? Green had the chance to almost destroy your game by building to 9/10 port too.
@phungxtung164 Жыл бұрын
Green was so unlucky, 7 devs and all knights? and the fact that they couldn't make it to 9/12 really did their game in. However I was so shocked how nobody saw you as a threat until 7 points. If red was just more calm and not petty about the block they could have extended, work with green so green gets 9/12, and make you stuck at 8 pts
@QYXP Жыл бұрын
Not letting on to the other players your strategy is one thing but lying to us is kind of weird. You should be better than that
@JohnSmithEx Жыл бұрын
Hi Dandy Drew. Nice game, nice voice, nice analysis during the game, and nice channel overall. You are obviously a top tier Catan player. But I have an issue with one specific aspect. You are doing what DyLighted is also doing constantly: you are bullshiting the audience. I have no problem with bullshiting your opponents. It's a game, and your objective is to win. If you have to use exaggeration, manipulation, lies, deceit, or whatever other tactic to win, that's perfectly fine. It's more than fine, it's enjoyable. But deceiving the audience, why? How does this help you to win? At 3:57 Green blocks your brick, because you are competing for the wood port. You say to the audience "Very weird block. I think the 9 is just better". It's not weird at all, and you know it. Blocking the 9 is better for you, not for Green. At 6:13 after having lied to Green that you are not racing them, and Green has correctly blocked you again and won the race, you say to the audience: "I think the solo block is ridiculous". The bullshiting continues for the rest of the game. IMHO this kind of bullshiting is uncalled for. You seem to be a smart guy. It doesn't look like you are mentally unable to make the distinction between talking to the audience and talking to your opponents.
@dandydrew Жыл бұрын
Hey John Smith! I would take the wood port if the opportunity was there, but us getting into a solo blocking war was not beneficial to either of us and that was my point. For green, there is an advantage to put the robber on the very strong OWS player since he will be fighting development cards this game against black, which is exactly what happened. Luckily for Green, he was able to secure army but if he lost pacing early on, his chances of winning are most likely less than 10%. Of course, I am biased in this situation and I acknowledge that. Either way, really appreciate your feedback and support. I’ll take your comments and reflect on them for future games. Thanks! - DD

I really enjoyed the video and love DandyDrew's content in general, but I also agree with this take as constructive criticism. Drew was obviously racing green for the wood port, as evidenced by the fact that he didn't commit his road to the 9 10 at 4:51 or 5:20. The block makes a lot of sense as this port is way more critical for blue as he's on 10 points of wood (15 with the port) and only 1 of brick and no other good ports besides the more difficult to get 9 10.
