This has gone me wondering where my rabbit wires have gone 🤔 i used to have dozens of them, time for a root around i think 😂😂 . The rabbit was probably got at by a rat but stoats will do similar damage trying to get to the liver . Very enjoyable video well done 😊

Great video haven’t snared since I was a lad. Poaching ( with permission) has come on a long way with thermal imaging! Probably a stoat that got into the rabbit. Have kept my hand in with the catty nothing like a result with one 👍

@@themanabroad7800 I’m using 11.9mm steels. Their weight is halfway in between an 11mm steel and an 11mm lead. I’m just getting on with them very well. If I was just Squirrel shooting, I’d be using 11mm lead, but everything else, 11.9mm steel for me.

@@BourneOutside I spoke with the farmer this evening actually, and he tells me he’s seen both Stoat and Weasel around recently. He said that he’d actually seen a Stoat carrying off a big rat, so it’s between those 3 I reckon, but I still think rat. Trailcam is coming out soon!

Cheers Jason 👍🏻 I went back for the afternoon to see if I could get one as they came in to roost on dusk, but nothing came in. Night time is illegal, so won’t be doing that. Going home with a bird in my hand is a successful mooch in my books, but yeah, shame about the rabbit.

What ate portions of the snared rabbit? I didn't hear you mention the possibility of a weasel, which is the first critter that occurred to me even before you mentioned rat. I don't know if you have mink in your region, but that would be another possibility where I live, though I think a mink might have consumed a larger portion! For whatever the observation is worth, I once saw a ground squirrel carrying the head of a rabbit that, presumably, some hunter had dressed in the field. It kind of freaked me out as a kid (about ten years old)! I never thought of those squirrels as anything other than herbivores. Anyway, I found it interesting to see such a different form of hunting from what I'm typically familiar with in the western and Rocky Mountain portions of the USA.

@@willong1000 the eyes and the stomach cavity were eaten out, and the neck chewed through. I’ve never seen a stoat or weasel here, but I have seen rats get on rabbits that I’ve shot while waiting to be picked up, but only at night. We do have Mink, but I’ve never seen one here. I’m going to set up a trailcam I think, because opinions are definitely divided, and realistically, absolutely no way to tell. I’m really curious.

It looks like a buzzard or crows that have ruined your rabbit.buzzard id say as the crows would have the eyes out.a buzzard will always start on the head then into the chest cavity for the liver and heart and lungs.its hard to stop as they can spot a kill miles away. Crows and magpies soon cotton on to what you are doing and will inspect your snares for you at first light. Good luck

@@lookingfortrouble6970 there was too much damage elsewhere for that I think. Plus the snares were checked after dark, and very first thing in the morning before a crow would’ve had time to do it. All the intestines were gone too.

So I could only have caught that rabbit an hour after dark? At no other time during the night could it have been caught? It’s dark here for around 14 hours each night. It would have been stiff as a board if it was caught at midnight. I checked all the snares with a thermal after dark, because I’d been waiting around to see if I could get a pheasant going up to roost. The snares were clear. Rabbits use runs throughout the entire night.

@@CattyShackHunter they eat the eyes and normally open them up by the bums, they raid fenn trap boxes with rabbits 🐇 digging out gide sticks almost as bad as a fox pulling rabbit through bars cage traps. Hedgehogs get right inside the rabbits body seen it happen in the past

Also, foxes will take snares with rabbits in them, this makes sure I know there was a snare in place, so I’m not hunting around looking for a snare that’s no longer there.
