I wonder how all the fruit trees you cut down to plant these grapes would have fared?🙄

What kind of fruit trees did they cut down?
@RandyPeterson8 ай бұрын
@@rayray8687 Apple, Cherry, Apricot, Plum, Peach. Went for the wine money grab. Replanting the trees and restoring those orchards would take 20 years. Comparatively, there is almost no fruit left in the Okanagan. Sad

@@RandyPeterson: Was it just a particular winery or vineyard that replaced their crops? I can’t seem to find any information about it, what year did it happen?
@RandyPeterson8 ай бұрын
@@rayray8687 I want to say the late 80's on. Several new wineries were opened, and the percentage of wine to fruit tilted dramatically. I remember signs by the highways offering all the free fruitwood you could take. The whole focus of the area was changed, and IMHO, not for the better.

Great reason to reduce wine intake, or then default to imports. Had they planned accordingly and took risk management seriously especially after 2022, they may not have been hit a second time with more losses. Those vines should have been protected after that incident and any damaged/dead vines replaced too. If so, those vines would be producing soon. Common sense, no?

What with the planet dying and governments going after the farmers who grow the food we need why are we still growing food for alcohol?
@garywagner24668 ай бұрын
The planet is fine. It’s your little brain that’s dying. Nothing wrong with a nice glass of wine. The BC wineries are finding out what farmers all over the world already know. Mother Nature doesn’t care.
