Looks like you had a sudden oil pump failure. Wow, this is rare. I've flown this for thousands of hours during development and never had an oil pump failure in flight. I'm glad you captured it. If felt so real. This is why we gave the failure rate sliders to increase the chance of these things happening. Great job.

Looks like you lost oil pressure. The prop pitch governor works with oil pressure so that’s the first thing that went and what caused the RPM to get so high out of nowhere. Without that lubrication, your engine then slowly tore itself to shreds. Amazing level of detail!

Good spot. So okay, at 24 minutes we see the bottom left engine instruments needle drop to nothing and the rpm needle shoot up at the same time. @@BluGames Sometimes it can't be helped, lol! One little nugget I was taught is that groundspeed = survival. Crashing at 80 knots has 4x the energy as crashing at 40 knots. The FAA's Pilot Knowledge and Operating Handbook does the math and concludes if you crash at 50 mph with a 9G deceleration your ground roll will be 9.4 feet. Double speed is 37.6 feet. Crash at VS0 with full flaps and into the wind and statistics say you'll walk away. This plane is PERFECT for practicing.

That was surprising realistic, I’m glad to see more developers including those aspects of flying, in real flying it’s not if but when! I used the FSX C172 from A2A for my real life PPL training. Already that plane was fantastic, but the VFR experience of FSX even with the VFR Germany addons leaves lot to be desired. After all, it was a platform from 2006, and the age shows. MSFS lacked great VFR planes so far, and since MSFS is so fantastic for VFR training, finally with the arrival of A2A we have a great PPL trainer. I just hope they bring the A2A C172 trainer to MSFS with Accusim 2.0 - the Comanche is a great plane, but it certainly is not a trainer.

Interesting to watch this engine failure, but apart from the fact that it could have been prevented by proper checks, the pilot’s reaction was far from appropriate. In reality you have little time at such low altitude (a reason to study and memorize emergency checklists as well), but in order to lower fire hazard upon landing you should at least turn magnetos off, mixture off, fuel pump off and fuel tanks disconnected. Also unlock the door, otherwise the door might not open after damaging the airframe. Lower gear and flaps when you know you can make it to the desired landing field. You could have walked away choosing the adjacent field, but now I fear you might have had four fatalities, either by the crash or a subsequent fire.

Very, very, very few single-engine piston aircraft, with controllable pitch props, have the ability to feather. The best you can do is get them into a very coarse pitch, assuming the prop is still turning and there is nothing wrong with the oil pump. The very coarse pitch may help if the prop is not turning, but not sure what the results would be if it was still windmilling with that coarse pitch.
