CatCat - Bye Bye Baby (CD version arranged by K. Salli & P. Lowland)
The Finnish entry placing 22nd in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin. Composed by K. Salli & M. Lehtonen. Lyrics also by K. Salli & M. Lehtonen.
The song is sung from the perspective of a woman ending a relationship because of her lover's infidelity. She claims that she will not cry and seems generally positive about her future prospects. Despite all the high hopes the song gathered only 11 points on the big night. Much of the criticism propelled to the unimpressive orchestral arrangement by the conductor Olli Ahvenlahti, the misjudged decision not to use any backing tape, the weird and cheap looking outfits designed and manufactured at the YLE wardrobe and the backing dancers' akward choreography. The outfits were designed by Eeva Kähärä. The duo has later admitted they were embarrassed for the clothing as soon as they saw it. The outfits and the performance became a notorious camp phenomena and every now and then it appears in some form in the media. Interestingly the outfits still exist at the YLE wardrobe and the girls fit to them. The duo has offered to buy them, but YLE has refused to sell. YLE rents the outfits occasionally for the duo.
Bye bye baby, baby goodbye
Though I'll be alone, I shall go away
Bye bye baby, baby goodbye
This is the end, but I won't cry
