When they start laying, feed them dried mealworms, fresh corn and spinach or silverbeet a few times a week. You'll get the best eggs ever! Also add a couple of white leghorns, they lay massive eggs!

Australorps, golden Wyandotte and Plymouth rocks. Nice chooks. Used to breed those 3 and a few other breeds of chickens. The australorps should be the best layers outta them all but they should all be great layers. In general good types of chooks to have am with a good nature. Hope it all ends good with them mate.

One thought on the handling and hook issue. I'm sure it was a cheap hook if it came with a cheap handline but also I think it would be a lot easier to straighten a hook with a handline than with a rod and reel. With a rod and reel you have the bend in the rod as well as the drag setting to take tension off the hook. With the hand line it's just raw power and not much give. Just a thought

Nice job on the chicken coop. Man don't you have any trees there? That looks like hot country. They need calcium for strong shells. Crushed oyster shells are good. And lots of drinking water is crucial. It looks like you know what your doing. Greens and vegetables are important too. You will be getting lots of manure for compost for a garden too. I like it!

you need feed them oyster shells so the eggs get hard. i had 25 chickens an had two dozen eggs a day,, they will go out in morning an come back in evening u just need shut the little door, each chicken has a personality,, u got some great chickens
