If you have not, please do report that incident. Literal hit and run and violated at least a couple maritime laws. The absolute lack of remorse says next time there may be a body involved. Help yer fellow kayakers out and hold them accountable for their actions before they cause real harm.

I was going to report that since it seemed no one else did; however, when I looked up Coast Guard reporting it said: Federal law requires the operator or owner of a recreational vessel to file a boating accident report with the State reporting authority if the recreational vessel is involved in an accident that results in any of the following: A person dies A person is injured and requires medical treatment beyond first aid A person disappears from the vessel under circumstances that indicate death or injury Damage to vessels and other property totals $2,000 (lower amounts in some states and territories). The boat is destroyed. Report Timelines: Within 48 hours if a person, dies within 24 hours, is injured and requires medical treatment beyond first aid, or disappears from the vessel under circumstances that indicate death or injury. Within 10 days of the occurrence or death if earlier reporting is not required. Unfortunately, I don't think it was reportable. California DMV had this: Boat operators or owners must also make a written report of a boating accident to DBW within 48 hours when: ■ A person dies within 24 hours of the accident, disappears, or is injured and requires medical treatment beyond first aid. ■ Total damage to all vessels involved and other property is more than $500 or there is complete loss of a vessel. In all other incidents requiring a written accident report, the report must be made within 10 days of the accident. Failure to comply with the above requirements is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 or imprisonment up to six months, or both.

Regardless of what happened, the Private Boater is in the wrong. I hope they will report the CF 3245 SM to the US Coast Guard for follow up. The video is clear proof of this idiots intent to cause harm.

I don't of if there was intent but negligence..yes..failing to render assistance...yes. IMO they should be reported to the coast guard and be fined.

That's the reason California's going to require boaters to go through a safe boating licensing program. I've had large boats go flying by me in my Arima within a few feet in the ocean. They don't realize the wake they're creating. Also, I've also seen 14 foot aluminum boats literally disappear in larger swells in the ocean. I had two kayaks before and never fished in the open water areas in the ocean. Too many idiots out there.
